Hello, I am a programming librarian at a rural library system. We are holding our second annual Libraries on Tap: A Brewing Scavenger Hunt in August where we partner with local breweries for a month long series of events. Participants gather stamps and the locations that they visit and we hold informational events at the libraries and breweries. This year we are trying to incorporate more game style events to be a little more interactive than the beer schools and tasting/tours we did last year. I am looking to you fine folks for suggestions, brewery games? Thanks
I don't know if beer trivia has already been done in your 'school' but here is a link to a search that I did of this forum that should help you develop beer trivia questions. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/search/105405123/?q=Trivia&o=date&c[title_only]=1&c[node]=39
"Beer Information Games" I thought this was going to be a thread about brewers obscuring ingredient, nutritional, or brewing location information. Regarding the actual topic, I've been to an event where a participant is given a beer in a glass w/o being told what the beer is. The game was to guess the "style" of beer after tasting it.
hm, since I like a little sinister, make your own crimes against humanity and call it crimes against beer. One stack of cards could be things like I am eating ... what beer should I pair. Then all the answer cards are beer types, beers or something to the such. Your questions could range to anything that could be answered with a beer. I know it is a reach, but when at breweries with my family and friends we usually play cah. Also what do you meme? but not sure how you could work that in.
How about a game called "is the brewery xxxxxx independent or not?". Or- "what city/state/country is that brewery in?". Or- "what style is that beer?". Contestants aren't sampling, just going by the name. Or- "which brewery makes the beer called xxxxx?" Or- "is the ingredient xxxxx an adjunct or add-junk?".
Real or fake beer names. Give a contestant two beer names, or a list if several, where one is a made up beer and the others are real. They have to identify the fake one. Of course the real and fake ones should all be equally believable. For example: Electric chipmunk Pretty kitty Ugly pug Barking squirrel The second choice is the fake one
You guys are crushing this! I am going to take some of these past conceptualization and bring them to our brewery partners. Keep y'all posted on how they turn out. And keep 'em coming! Huge fan of cards against humanity, I'll see how we can create this. Can you clarify, "what do you meme?"
This seems like an easy one to implement. And we can have fun coming up with strange names. Who wants to start off with, unbelievable names of real beers - GO!
It is a game you draw a card with a picture and others give you a card with a slogan and you select the one you like
All Cats Are Gray In The Dark Christmas Eve At A New York City Hotel Room Norm Is A Son Of A Bitch Shitty Lyte Beer On second thought, these don't sound unbelievable at all. In fact, now that I think about it, they sound rather mundane. The real challenge would be to come up with "fake" beer names that don't already exist.
@dcotom, that will be a challenge. Luckily I am a reference librarian and am up to the research challenge!
