...but, in LA traffic, how long would it take you to get there?

    Just keeping to Long Island & Queens (defining "local" as not needing to cross a bridge to go to the brewery);
    Barrier Money
    Barrage Yada Yada
    Sand City Mofosaic
Great South Bay Blood Orange Pale
Greenport Harbor Leaf Pile (I'll throw in a seasonal)
    Singlecut Eric
    Brooklyn Sorachi Ace

I've bought all of these in the last year currently, and would be doing okay if they were in my limited pool of options.

Thanks for the reply and list. One thing though, I'm going to assume that Sorachi Ace isn't really "brewed within 100 miles" of you though.

I don't know - I was recently doing some research on the Brooklyn brands brewed at F X Matt in Utica and was surprised to find many 12 oz. bottles (as well as draught) coming out of the brewery in Brooklyn. Labeling is pretty clear as are the addresses on the COLA - either one or the other, not both.
Interestingly, Brooklyn has its own TTB Permit # for Utica - BR-NY-BRK-2 (i.e., they don't use Matt's Permit - BR-NY-MAT-1 - which is common for a lot of contract brews).

Also, I noted that Matt is brewing Kingfisher now (with the collapse of Mendocino/Olde Saratoga), as well as some Cape May beers.

Brooklyn's "partner" 21st Amendment beers are also coming out of Utica. And 21st Amendment is brewing Brooklyn brands in SF.

Thanks, I wondered that too... but why are you putting any value on the label info as a distinction? Can’t they put either address on the label regardless?

They can but Brooklyn doesn't. And, as I noted
A TTB COLA - "Certification of Label Approval" - the actual application (not just the label image) for a label will always list all the breweries allowed to use the label, either owned by the brewer or a contractor brewery. Neither of "Brooklyn, NY" Sorachi Ace labels list Utica, whereas the "Utica" labels list ONLY F X Matt Utica, using Brooklyn's permit for that brewery.

    Too true!

Beachwood - 5 minute drive/20 minute walk if I take my time.
Smog City - Steelcraft LB is 10 minutes from my front door.
Monkish - 30 minutes, then maybe 20 minutes to find good parking on a release day.
Modern Times, Highland Park, Cellador, Bottle Logic - 35 minutes, no traffic. Up to an hour.
    Homage - An hour?

That being said, Trademark Brewing is opening within a 5 minute walking distance from me. And I've enjoyed their saison and the stout passable.

I already mostly do this. Comrade, Dry Dock, Bull & Bush, Station 26, Mountain Sun, Bierstadt, New Belgium, Weldwerks, etc.
Even when I go outside that bubble, it's typically for Casey, Telluride, Elevation, Eddyline, and Ska, which are still in CO.
When I buy from outside of the state, it's usually from across the pond in Belgium and Germany.

A 100 mile radius for me would go from Philly up to Springfield, MA. Aside from losing Zero Gravity, Von Trapp and Jack's Abby from my regulars I guess I'd do pretty alright overall.

Until the last 3 or so years, just about none of the craft beer I'd buy would be close to local. Living in NYC, my go-tos were from Sierra Nevada, Victory, Lagunitas, Stone, and eventually Bells.

Sixpoint was the only NYC based brewery that I drank regularly, but it's actually contract brewed in Tennessee I think so that doesn't even really count.

I did drink a fair amount of Ithaca Flower Power, which is well over 100 miles away but still in-state at least.

JK, this is the first time I became aware of this; that Cape May Brewing was contract brewing.

Do you happen to know which Cape May brands are contract brewed?

    Cheers!

Looks like it is The Bog, Summer Catch and IPA, the latter only draught, the other two cans and kegs. Just checked some cans in a store and the only one done at Matt was The Bog (a Cranberry Shandy) and it was well marked on the can (below) and, IIRC, on the box? (Most CM packs use plastic rings but I'm pretty sure The Bog was boxed? Might be confusing it with some other beers I looked at, tho').

Also, the existence of a COLA does not mean the beer is brewed, only that it could be brewed. (Some brewers put in for a COLA "just in case").

A few local places by my hometown would be JJ Bitting brewing ,Climax brewing company and whatever Pizzeria Uno had available. Nowadays I enjoy going to Wet Ticket brewery in Rahway.

Based on a tour of the brewery and some bottles from a recent purchase, I think the Sorachi Ace and Local 1 & 2 are produced in Brooklyn.

Within 100 miles of my home there are several hundred breweries so there is plenty of choice.
There is a "locale" scheme in which beer in pubs are badged if brewed within a few miles, say 15 in urban areas and 20 in rural ones.

Looks like Cape May is now (also?) contract-brewing at Yards, both cans and kegs (Cape May Lager and an Oktoberfest labels exist).

JK, maybe I am missing it but in the above is "Yards" mentioned anywhere?

Should have phrased that differently - the can label 'snip' is ffrom CM IPA, the "Cape May Lager and an Oktoberfest labels (that) exist" are keg labels, and there's also an IPA keg label.
