What beer are you drinking now? #2385

Just finished drafting a mass e-mail for a local university (as a favor), and now I'm ready for some liquid refreshment. Starting off with this, BAs. I hope everyone is having a glorious day! Let's get f*cking LARRRGE!!!

 

Personally I prefer their Märzen and think that this is somewhat overrated, still a very nice Rauchbier though. A lot sweeter and less hoppy/bitter than their classic Märzen.

Southern Tier Nitro S'mores

 

Pavilion of Dreams from Tired Hands. I went into this one skeptical as f*ck, but I am a fan. I should have grabbed more than just a mere 4-pack. This is pretty special. Cheers!

 

The classic Schlenkerla Märzen and still their best Rauchbier apart from the fantastic Weizen, which is really more of a Hefeweizen than a Rauchbier per se though.

 

I present to you: Cuvée de Schlenkerla, which is their Fastenbier and Märzen 50/50. Honestly, it's awesome, the best of both worlds. A perfect combination of the sweet, malty richness of the Fastenbier and the more pronounced smokiness and grassy and herbal hop notes of the Märzen. I'm honestly enjoying this a lot more than I did each beer individually.

Dark amber body with a thick and fluffy head with some clinging foam along the glass. Blueberries waft through the nose. Blueberries hit the palate straight away with maple syrup subtly developing towards the finish. Medium body; a bit watery; some sugary warmth.

It is too bad the overall beer experience doesn't live up to the initial impressions of the look and smell. At least the sweetness is subdued and the ABV is well-hidden. The beer does hit the brewer's attempt at a blueberry and maple syrup experience with a deft and relatively balanced approach.
