One arm and one leg I never try to assess the amount. One factor is that I drink predominantly cask beer which is much more expensive than the equivalent in bottle or can. But as it is much better (given good cellaring) this is not a problem.

That's cute, I always keep em when I've done out of state shopping on beercations.

That being said about $30/week is the norm so $100-150. Sometimes it's more but rarely is it ever less.

Oh wait -- does this count shipping costs for trading habits? Might have to up that to about $300 then....

Nah, otherwise you'd have to count gasoline and car payments (how else ya gonna get the beer home from the local retailers?) and then rent/mortgage on your place (where else you gonna keep it and drink it?).

Unless someone only drinks at home, I suspect many people will underestimate what they spend on beer at bars, restaurants, sporting events, concerts, etc... plus tips....

Fairly strict $100-$150 or so monthly budget at home. Not waiting in line at Side Project in other words.

When I’m traveling? There is no budget, really.

Honestly trying to cut back. I go out to the bar once or twice a week and have 1-2 beers at $5-7 each and maybe grab a 6 pack on payday. That doesn't seem too outrageous right? Awhile ago I would go batshit insane and drive to binnys and come back with $100 worth of beer but, those days are behind me

. . . Will I have to give up craft and drink Old Frothingslosh again . . . :grimacing:

For whatever reason, I interpreted the question as only referring to take home beer purchases. I don't eat or drink out very often (my wife and I love to cook) but at roughly $8 and up for a bar beer pretty much anywhere in the Boston area, even 2 or 3 times a month would indeed inflate my number (50-100) significantly.

    $100 maybe.

More during Thanksgiving to New Years period and maybe for the 4th of July.

In my number I included things like going to breweries, craft beer bars etc. i.e. craft-specific/focused drinking. But I didn't include "I'd be drinking alcohol of some description regardless" type stuff.

e.g. went for dinner with my wife and another couple the other night. They all got $15 cocktails. I was on the fence about a cocktail or a beer. Ultimately went with an $8 Suarez. I know that this is somewhat illogical but that's how I roll.

Yeah, that's exactly the sort of scenario I was thinking of. I have a good handle on what I spend for home consumption, it's predictable. But I would have a hard time figuring out my beer spending at less predictable social events that may involve beer. When mental calculations get difficult people have a tendency to underestimate their costs/risks/damages.

Yeah for sure. The way I looked at it when coming up with my number was basically how much do I spend per month that I wouldn’t spend if there wasn’t this beer hobby aspect to my drinking
