DC/MD/NoVA Beer Updates (2019)

Any thoughts on the current can options at ocelot and solace? I'll be out near Dulles this weekend and could hit one or both, but have not tried much from either brewery recently.

 

In my opinion, I think Ocelot has several great can options. Home is one of their best IPAs. Elsewhere is also great- same malt bill as Home, different hops. Watch Me Disappear and Soul Kitchen is also great. Soul Kitchen is pretty dank rather than citrus, so you have to be into that thing.

 

Not to mention Sunnyside Dweller cans. I might be heading out there myself tomorrow.

 

Soul Kitchen on draft at Dominion has been one of my favorite beers in a long time.

 

I guess Churchkey had their anniversary party yesterday and the leftovers are insane. Stopped by there this afternoon and they had around 20 IPAs on tap from the likes of Bissell Brothers, The Veil, Monkish, Other Half and Trillium.

 

That sounds like trouble.

Are allagash white cans available in Baltimore?

 

I don't think that Maryland is in the distribution area for cans, unfortunately.

 

It is still there as of this morning, what a great DIPA!

Did anyone go to Churchkey for the Drekker tap takeover?

 

This might not be the best place to ask, but I just moved to Baltimore from the Midwest and am looking to join some more localized Facebook groups. Anyone have any leads or could point me to the right groups? I guess I’d also be interested in the rest of the DC/MD/NoVA area as well.

Just a PSA to the area, Epic Quadruple Barrel Big Bad Baptist (Release #12) has an infection issue. All three of my bottles went down the drain last night, and others have noted experiences similar to mine (example 1, example 2, example 3, example 4, example 5, example 6, example 7, example 8). Every shop I saw this in in DC and NOVA had Release #12 (I checked labels every time I saw it in a futile effort to diversify), so, if you've still got bottles, you should probably consider reaching out to Epic.

I called them this morning to flag the issue, and they said any compensation they offer would probably be less than 100%. Frankly, that strikes me as bullshit. If they released a product that is well-documented as defective, they should make it right.

 

UPDATE: Sounds like they're going to send me a full refund. If you're still hanging on to any bottles you snagged locally, now might be a good time to pop 'em.
