Woo! Two bottles! Nice to not fuck up a sale after bombing the last two!

Walking through California Adventure with a 10 year old bugging me for his water bottle and a bag of chips and was able to score 2 bottles pretty easily. Forgot the glassware though.

This was the best beer I had at Week of Logic in 2018 (almost 14 months ago). A lot of people felt the same, I think. Don’t know what took so long for it to come out, it was brewed back in the summer of 2017, so I think a lot of the hype is people that are stoked that it’s finally dropping.

I missed the sale by sleeping through it....wasn't feeling all that well. Shame. GF got her full allocation though, so we're still pretty good on amount.

In the description of the beer, BL said it was aged in barrels for 18 months. I’m assuming that is considerably longer than most of their BA releases.

Well it was an *average* so some parts may even be older. I think most their other normal wares (DSN/FO/etc) are a mix of 6-18months.

So how were those low fills compared to WOL 18?

    Cheers

Not sure about comparison, as it was so long ago, and drinking one under the sun versus the tasting room can make a big difference. But, the geisha coffee used brought really light almost fruit-like notes, and then heavy vanilla from the beans. I'm rather weary of the geisha just because every time I've had it, it's always on the more acidic and light side, and this isn't much different. Once the GF and I dialed in where the coffee was...we really enjoyed the beer.

Everything I’ve had from Angry Chair is pure trash.

They are so good at working with roasted nuts and imparting the beer with that flavor. And if you taste the base stout used in some of these, you also realize it's very solid, but they haven't released regular Popinski in a while.

When they aim for a flavor profile they don't stop until they hit it. If the label says Rocky Road...it's going to fucking taste like it which is kind of absurd, but also, delicious.

Nope, have to disagree there. Every stout I’ve had of theirs is a sugary, sweet, unbalanced mess. Same goes for J. Wakefield.

Not arguing with you on that--they can be cloying messes from both, but I've been pleasantly surprised by both more than not. AC moreso than J Wake.

If you can, try to score some J Wake fruited berliners, that's the best of their stuff for my money.

I also love how the article gave Other Half more credit for being the OGs behind the haze hype game than anyone else including the years older Tree House...as if they took the torch from Heady...lol! And let's just go ahead and pretend like Hill doesn't exist on that front while we're at it.

Anyone know if they are doing anything like the patches thing this year for the first X number of people in line to pick up their bottles? I am trying to decide whether I go down there on Sat or Sun to pick up my bottles.

Went just now to pick up my bottles (after a Birthday morning at Disneyland).
BGO is pretty damn good. Ton of coffee on the nose and straight vanilla on the taste.
And as a Birthday bonus, I got to hear some guy tell his buddy about why IPA’s are called IPA’s because of the heavy hopping on the way to India. Don’t tell me I didn’t have a good birthday.
Oh and El Duende is solid. Not RFI good, but it was good.

how do you differe/compare those 2? Thin in comparison to RFI? More cinnamon than RFI?

different cinnamon style. RFI was cinnamon roll-ish, duende is red hots/fireball

Pretty much it. I think the vanilla from the FO base really shines in RFi. It’s a bit smoother and sweeter than Duende. Duende is more straight cinnamon (probably because of the DSN base). Not harsh at all, just a different taste.

I went in today to pick up my BGO too. It reminded me of a BA Speedway with Vanilla. I mean that as a positive. Really enjoyed it and the vanilla shined the more it warmed.

Pie vs. Pie is still so good. Impressive they get that velvety mouthfeel without any lactose.

Still not big in El Duende, but you guys are spot on on with the Fireball/Red Hots comp.

I blended the last splash of my El Duende with about half a taster of Pie vs. Pie and it tasted just like a streusel/crumb cake.
