Sorry dude. It was still available when I posted at 11:30. Sucks that they won't have it on draft.

See my edit above. A few must have fell out of carts. I got stuck in a meeting earlier. Got some DC and King Citra as well as New Dreams.

Super convenient with online ordering. The pickup window is great as well since I am not in Downtown Sac on Saturdays for their in person releases which usually sold out super quick..

Yeah, I am with you here. Curiosity on their attempt at a "Pastry" type stout that was BA and no line was an easy purchase.

Popped open Danger Cake last night and, sure enough, it was a mess. It was an abomination. It’s hard to tell what specifically from the incredibly long list of flavor additions was the cause or if it was just the lactose. It could have been all of the above.

Folks are giving the beer as high as 4.5-5 on Untappd. I clearly don’t belong in this timeline.

Damn, I hope it wasn't a mistake having a friend get me cans of two beers I'd never tasted before (I had him get me 4 packs of this and New Dreams). It was just such a good deal for the Stout compared to what I've been paying the last 6 months lol. And new dreams hop bill had me sold, but it doesn't seem to be getting the greatest reviews. Oh well, hopefully I'll be surprised when I get my hands on the cans later this week.

Can't comment on DC, but I really enjoyed New Dreams. Haven't open cans yet, but killed a growlette of it with the wife last night. We both liked it, kinda hard to go terribly wrong with Mosaic and Galaxy hop bill.

Dang ok, I'll set mine aside to check out in the fall or winter. Glad to see the good reviews on New Dreams. I'm having some King Citra right now, and it's as great as the last batch. Love this stuff.

I'm jealous of you guys that have King Citra cans. I really liked Danger Cake too, but will fully admit that it's because I just got a drink full of a Mounds bar to me.

That dry-hopped pilsner at San Ramon was great too.

Wow just open a can of danger cake and it's delicious. Right up my alley when it comes to pastry stouts. Straight almond Joy , wasn't expecting much due to some reviews but surprised me in a good way.

Nice casual Monday at lunch pick up.

I only had a taster of DC as well, but I got the German cake with the coconut + PB. I expected diabetes sweet after the reviews above, but thought it was below that level of extreme sweetness. Will be interesting to try from the can later. Probably drink one soon and save one for later.

Exactly! Wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be, I think with some time it will mellow out bit. My gripe is that I wish it had some stronger barrel presence. Where did you pick up at? I like the look there,I picked mines up at San Mateo.

Sacramento Tap Room (18th and Capital), small space, terrible parking....... but usually a good time.

Aside from the obvious differences in palates, I wonder if there are generational differences as well. To be specific, I'm not referring to the word "generation" as a demographic cohort identified by a birth year range. Rather, I mean to use it to identify when a person became interested or began exploring craft beer. I wonder if there's a correlation between a person's appreciation for pastry stouts/lactose infatuation and "generation."

BTW, if anyone wants my remaining can of Danger Cake, hit me up.

It's not perceived sweetness that's a problem for me, it's the clash of disparate flavors. I also have a strong aversion to lactose apparently.

I kinda of know what you mean, I've been into pastry stouts for about a year now. I really didn't get into stouts when I first started into craft beer so my palette is used to these pasty stouts but I do enjoy the non adjunct stouts as well. However this danger cake is delicious, to me, but I completely understand where you are coming from.

As much as I enjoyed the whole Mounds bar thing, I also concurrently thought it was way sweet. So...not sure where that puts me. I'm happy it was only a half pour. Did you want anything for that Danger Cake though? I'd be interested in just having it for a rainy day.

Totally agree, have discussions with some people about the appreciation of unfruited funky beers and how expressive once can be with less, but some of them only think of bottom line flavors.

I'll be looking forward to our time at the other end of the bar telling off youngin's.

When I first became more dedicated to trying craft beer, it was all about Stone IRS, Old Rasputin, and Samuel Smith Imperial Stout. Then I learned about stuff like Ten Fidy, Courage, Darkness, etc. They hold up so well with age. I can't say the same for a lot of the stuff that comes out now.

As for sours, I try to buy only lambic at this point. Doesn't even need to be the .rar stuff...3F OG, Tilquin à L'Ancienne, or Boon Mariage Parfait are more than adequate for me.
