This is great, except for the buddy system. Some of my favorite time at the fest is when I sojourn into the wild. I leave my stuff with my buddies, bring a bottle of something fun, and just wade into the chaos.

First time I went, I left to find food. I came back an hour later, and hadn’t even found a food vendor.

    Couple items:
    1) I recommend bringing your own plastic tasting cups. You can also recycle cups you buy pours in.

    2) We don't know who's pouring where yet. That is to be interesting.

    3) It was stated earlier you can't go into the event with an open beverage. That was NOT my experience last year. The person checking my bag said you could have 72oz of un-opened beer to take in, and that an open bottle in your hand didn't count towards your total.

This was my experience and what I was told as well upon entry. I was in a hurry to finish off a bottle and one of the guys working at the gate said I didn't need to hurry because I can bring it in and it didn't count towards the limit.

Any of you all have experience with the Reggie's shuttle to DLD? Do the first buses tend to be completely full/do you need to get there super early?

Appreciate all the solid advice here, and from everyone else! Good stuff, and validates a lot of my thoughts. We are at the hotel across the street so definitely planned to be making trips over to secure our hauls as our different group times hit. Any breakfast recs? I was just thinking the hotel for convenience...

Sometimes it's about the simple things in life.

I agree 100% solo venture is very fun, however as I stated, once noon hits you are 10x more likely to encounter trouble solo! First 4 hours is money.

Can you name a good 3 year aged bourbon, much less from a new distillery, because I certainly can't? It's also pretty bizarre to empty barrels, bottle whiskey and then sit on those bottles for a year, open the distillery and still not sell those bottles (but admittedly that seems to be what they did, and I'm assuming badl is aged close to a year)

I was wondering this same thing. Pure speculation here, but I’m thinking some of their earliest distilling/barreling efforts whether they distilled themselves or sourced, may have resulted in a few barrels on hand for this use.

That being said, I’d agree with you on the quality of that barrel compared to those from established distilling companies.

I’ll disagree again. The fun solo adventures don’t start until the afternoon! I feel like the morning is just warm up period and then the afternoon is when the fun begins. I left my group for the Monster Tones line last year and don’t think I saw them for another 1.5 hours or so. And in that time I managed to trade my Brozerker for HDQ straight up.

Yeahhhhh. Last year I ran into a guy sharing Fundamental Forces and some random BA stout that blew me away in the first hour I was inside, and responsibly brought my group a pour of Cavaleiro shortly thereafter. By the late afternoon, I found myself headbanging to Pig Destroyer in the front row with no idea how I'd gotten there and the dark lord only knows what happened to my Firestone Walker hat.

What does 3 year old bourbon have to do with anything? We were talking about 4-5 year whiskey. Nice job of moving the goal posts. 4-5 years is plenty of time to age a good whiskey. And who said it had to be good? It's just has to cut the sweetness of DL. They made Malort DL for heaven's (or hell's) sake.

I would have agreed with this a few years ago, until I had consistently some of the best BA beers I've tasted... and they were aged in Rogue barrels.

Alright, so it's becoming increasingly likely that they won't do announced tap times, but rather.. what? Last year was my only DLD; how did they do things in years prior? I've heard from people that they should go back to announcing tap times on the fly on Twitter, which means people are going to be on their phones all day? Is this real life?
