Oh for sure. I'd always hit up the medics for 1000ml bags. Depending on when he served I may have crossed paths with your Ranger buddy. Small community. Didn't serve in Batt, but went to school.

“lactated ringers” would be an excellent name for a NEIPA

Bodem is about as perfect as it gets for its price point. Really good beer.

Big North tickets on sale next Wednesday. It is on August 17th this year. I'm stoked because I've missed the last two years because of our recurring family vacation that time of year...but we moved it to July this year. I'm a happy man.

Smart, I plan my vacations around beer too.

It kills me that this is on the weekend that I'm always out of town (due to another event). I'm praying Far & Away doesn't fall on my wife's birthday this year, or I may have to make an edit to her birth certificate...

obviously it's dependent on each couple, but I'm genuinely curious how significant bdays become over time.

not to introduce further tension into the equation, but this is one fest that should supercede all but the most life-altering of occasions.

i'll say with utmost confidence that no activity/hobby which my wife is passionate about could come close to the experience that Far and Away was last year.

In fairness, she actually agreed to go last year, but she doesn't get much out of beer fests (she likes beer but doesn't drink much, and she has some weird allergy to stouts, specifically barrel-aged ones, which seems like a crime against god to me), so I told her we didn't need to go. It's mostly just a time of year when she can drag our old-ass friends out to actually do something, and the way our scheduling works, it happens to be Far & Away time.

With that said, I may be able to swing it this year, and to make that more likely, I'll be sure to quote you as essentially saying it's the most important thing I'll do this year.

As someone who’s never been: is Big North worth attending even with the $70 price tag? If so, why?

I haven't been, but $70 seems to be the going rate for beer fest these days. Half Acre is putting out top notch hoppy one offs ever other week, great sours monthly, and their barrel program is elite. If you like good beer and can drink enough to justify the price tag, I say go for it.

Well worth it. Unlimited pours, many of the beers are 1-offs that you will never see again(such as Cinnamon Toast Crunch benthic). Takes place both indoor and outdoors so it doesn’t feel crowded. Lines are never terrible And it is just an overall good time/vibe

It's certainly a fun time. I've been twice and enjoyed it each time and I guess it depends on how much disposable income you have. For me $70 is about on the line of where I'd go/not go to a festival depending on the price.

The first year was incredible because it was a bit less crowded, the activities they had were great and the band (Twin Peaks) was awesome.

The second year was still fun but not as good as the first year since some of the non-beer stuff (activities, food, bands) were not as good (IMO obviously) as the first year.

I didn't go last year because I was out of town but given the band lineup probably would have passed.

If you go you'll have a fun time for sure, the beer is HA so it's awesome. But as far as "worth" $70? Ultimately that's up to you. I'm on the fence about this year myself.

My family is 3-0 against my attempts to go to Big North over the last few years. Praying this is the year of the underdog...

I'm gonna do my best to do BN#4 this year. Was there in Chicago for #2 in fall 2017 and it was AWE-SOME.
If I can make it, I'll come back here to talk smack and try to coordinate, AND I'll be the one wearing nipple clamps on (due to happiness, not kinkiness).

Big North is the same day as the Neurosis concert at Thalia that I'm going to be in town for. Doors don't open until 7:30. I may be too old to do both things on one night...
