Good morning pilgrims of pilsner and gatherers with grog! I hope this message finds you anticipating a week with at least one day off. I always enjoy going to work on the Friday after Thanksgiving b/c nobody is there and I get a boat-load of stuff done. But I digress...

Weather in Central OH is pretty awesome for this time of year. High 50's and plenty of sun. We'll take it. Perfect for any number of fine beery choices that could be made. My favorite is whatever ends up in my Duvel tulip glass.

Been hitting the Celebration pretty heavy this holiday season. Seems to have gotten a lot of press here lately. It was a trail blazer for the industry and may have been eclipsed by some younger, more "hop forward" beers. But it's kind of like the Twinkies of seasonal IPA's. There is a certain amount of nostalgia associated with it and there will only be one.

Ok, enough about that. On to NEW beers. This is the thread to pull up the ol' stool and share a virtual pint with us. Whatever you sample today please tell us about it. Preferably a linked review but we'll take a good description as long as it's full of your opinion about what makes your beer great (or not so great but fingers crossed...). If you have a pic to share we'll take that too.

Now, get out there and try something new! Don't forget to tell us about it. Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

    ***New Milk/Sweet Stout Sunday!!!

A nice Sunday here in Casper though on the windy side. Windy in Casper? Who'd have thunk??

Perhaps...no, definitely, beer of the year for me, that I got in a trade:

I had another brew that I rated higher but..I bought that online.

Cheers to robinsmv for a brew that I believe, is in the same class as his home brewed Berliner Weisse!

Saw some posts about it here and there recently, so I put it on my "beers-to-keep-an-eye-out-for" list, and sure enough, my store had it.

May all your new beers be happy and your football teams winning (unless they're opposing my teams, 'natch )!

Later today: a Beer of Fame, Rogue's Shakespear Oatmeal Stout.

Its a pretty nice day here in Central NC. Overcast and mid 50s. Putting on a pot of spicy chunky chili right, so new beer is the best thing to have while cooking.

Ive got a whole spiel of new beer for today. I picked up the Winter Seasonal pack from SA, and Ive never had any of the seasonals in it. First up is the Chocolate Bock. Nice dark body with a creamy nitro looking head. Smell is more bock than chocolate, but the flavor makes up for that. Tastes like pure powdered milk chocolate, finishes with a slightly bitter light roasted malt/dark chocolate feeling that I really like. I would buy a standalone six of this.

    Schwarzbier

A beautiful day and unseasonable warm here in MN. Probably should go outside and do something but that won't happen with the US Grand Prix to start soon, and there is football as well. My first new beer for NBS is a combination of schwarzbier and rauchbier. Really interesting beer. August Schell's Chimney Sweep:

I finally found the bottle of ballast point victory at sea I've looking for. Will drink it tonight when I watch silent Sundays on TCM. I hope it's as good as it sounds!

    New Rye/Kentucky Common Beer Sunday

    GreetingS NBSer's,

A little above seasonal temperatures in SCMN today. And on a streak of several to be lasting through the week. So, no travel issues with T-giving this year. That's always always a good thing.

I gotta' give some kudo's to two biggest breweries in these part - Schell's and Summit. While Surly gets the pub and to some degree deservedly so, the old timers and quietly sending out interesting beers, that while not "Wow" beers, they are consistently interesting, tasty and drinkable (an important quality in these here parts). So for those searching out local MN beers, don't forget these breweries.

Today's offering is from Summit and a trial at a Kentucky Common. I have nothing to compare it to, but there should be a bit of tartness from a sour mash (not sure Summit actually did that).
    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/467/86524/?ba=garymuchow

It appears that I like it more than most. Complex and yet smaller at 5.8%
Anyway, best to all this week.

    Yesterday tried Rogue's Chocolate Stout.

    Today, Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout.

This was one of those beers where I was aware of how important the water used in the beer can be. It was a very fresh, "clean," (in a stout kinda way, that is) tasting - and I attribute this to the water used.
The clarity of the water allowed the malt to really come forward... the yeast hit me more mid-palate, and the hops asserted themselves on the finish.

I would not have thought to try these Rogue stouts (the chocolate yesterday and the oatmeal today) were they not on the Beers of Fame list. Very well-crafted examples of their styles.

    New Saison Sunday
    Greetings to all NBSers,
48 and mostly cloudy in the Inland NW, though the sun is trying to peek out. Rainy last night but today is dry, so far. Yesterday was outstanding with EWU and UW both winning. 'Hawks on their bye, so I was torn between Green Bay & Detroit. For family reasons, I'd normally say go Lions (plus I'm getting tired of whiny Pack fans), but it's better for Seattle's postseason hopes if the Lions don't do so well. My solution? Turn off the TV and crank up some tunes!

Opened up a bomber of Fremont's Harvest Ale: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/20680/62858/?ba=woemad

Not bad, but not great either. Like Draheim says, it doesn't quite seem like a true Saison, but I still enjoyed drinking it.

    Im back, yall.

I opened two other new beers today, with plans of opening a few more.

Lukcy Basartd was really good. It started out basically tasting like Arrogant Bastard, decent body, strong hops, highly drinkable, but when it warmed I got alot of grassy lemony hops. They reminded me of Stone 16th anniversary.

Now Im on Old Fezziwig. Its definitely malty, with just a hint of cinnamon and orange peel. I see why people like it, but Im not sold on freaking out over it.

    New Hefeweizen Sunday (week 404)

Greetings fellow NBS ers. Beautiful day here today spent doing nothing but enjoying beer and planning beer brewing, but I deserve after killer weeks for the last 4 months and no vacation for 19 mos. Do I deserve a hefe of this quality. Somehow I wanna say yes, but it is of a higher order as far as beers I have been wowed by lately. Wow. Consumed earlier at Doom Saloon, working on another Texas treat right now, will check in with final verdict. Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your hands. Cheers!

Just have to say I agree 100%. These are really solid brews that seem to be commonly overlooked. I'm always looking for the latest/greatest but often wonder why I don't grab these which I know are solid.

New Double Stout Sunday (week 404)

Enjoying a stout on a breezy cool day is a no brainer. This is a decent one, but it left me thirsting for what it tried to imitate, an Abyss. Tis the season. Hope you have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

.@ironhillbrewery Russian Imperial Stout. The beautiful label doesn't leave any room for guessing the style of this fantastic #beer on a chilly fall evening. No frills--no chocolate, no coffee--just a solid example of the chest-warming style.

    New American Brown Ale

Another beautiful Sunday in West MI. A frosty lawn gave way to temps solidly in the upper 50's.

Ran a trail race Saturday, took some family time outside this afternoon. Combined with some tasty brews all weekend long, it made for some good times.

Nice new beer for me from Saugatuck. Smoked beers aren't really my bag, so I have a lower score than some others. I do appreciate what they're going for.

    >>>> New Fruit Beer Sunday <<<<

Banana Bread Beer from Wells and Young's in the UK. I have had this bottle laying around in the bottom of the DBF since May. It didn't feel like a summer brew, but on a cloudy day in mid-November it was right in there. Not a bad brew. I wouldn't want to have a lot of it, but a good desert beer for sure.

    Happy Thanksgiving week to all.

    And Happy Trails!
