How IMPORTANT is beer in your life?

It's a great and fun hobby but I don't know how to quantify it in order to rank it. I have a lot of more important things that I enjoy too.

 

I put it in top 10 only because I associate it with quality time with myself or socializing with friends

 

Beer for sure is a hobby but just the same its an important part of my life. I have made beer friends that I swap beers and stories with, joined fantasy sports leagues with beer as the prize etc. It has also given me a reason to travel for beer festivals and beer releases! It gives me something to do on my free time from researching beers, trading beers, organizing my collection, looking for beer swag etc. I'm lucky as I have the disposable income to throw myself into the hobby and sometimes I wonder what I would do if I did not have beer in my life, I know for sure that I would have way more money to waste on dumb things and I would be 100 pounds lighter.

I don't rank it in any way. I spent a long career in the beer and wine business, but my family, my dogs, my neighborhood, and my city are front and foremost. My interests in literature and history are profoundly more important than beer. I really like and enjoy Spanish and French wines, but good beer has always been a companion and lovely lubricant through the years. I am not obsessed.

 

It ranks somewhere below ouzo on my list of things I could live without (as does most everything on the planet).

 

Top 20 what? Things in my life? How do you quantify aspects of your life? I guess I’m with the others in saying I probably couldn’t rank it. In things that are important to me, it probably would fall far below 20. Doesn’t mean I don’t love beer. But I love a lot of things much more than beer.

I’d consider it more of a luxury than anything of serious importance. It’s the icing on the cake. It’s a good social lubricant. It’s delicious! But there’s a load of things that I’d consider more important.

Maybe I’m getting a little too out there with this haha.

 

I’ll put beer at #7 just ahead of my wife, kids and career.

For me beer is one of my biggest passions. I recently chose to walk away from my corporate career in food and beverage in order to pursue my passion for beer with an up and coming brewery in Virginia.

 

It’s fourth on my hobby list behind surfing. Mountain biking, and snowboarding. I do spend a lot time if not more time researching beer, homebrewing and drinking beer. Than my other hobbies but Prefer the other ones. Ranked it top 10.

 

I have it somewhere between my #82 - cotton, and #2,212 - tin foil.

 

Big glass of Napa Cab with a T-bone on the grill? Doesn't get any better.

 

Top 10 for me. This is an interesting topic and a good exercise because I don't often think about my priorities and what I could or could not live without.
