Was just gonna say the same! Big, bold red next to a smoky open flame...sounds pretty damn good to me.

You have those basic things in life which can't be beaten, so I will talk about it as a hobby. I'd say it's very important. The taste, the "collecting", the increasing knowledge, the social part here. I would say it's among the top three. Didn't vote this time though.

That’s not bbqin. That’s grilling. I am talking about when you smoke a 15 lb brisket for 12 hours. Nothing better than sitting outside on a comfortable chair with an ice chest full of cold beers and tunes. Can’t drink red wine all day.

Who says you can’t session a beautiful Barbaresco or a PNW Pinot Noir? Not everyone is a lightweight

Telling you it’s not important would be a blatant (White) lie so yes it is. But this isn’t either my first thought in the morning 365 days a year.

Friends, family, other hobbies although I can wrap all these together with a fine beer.

I'll go out of my way when traveling to get a beer, but I won't travel for beer.

Since I travel to hike and run, I'd say that puts beer as #3 in terms of my hobbies.

Few interesting things going on with that list. 13 items in the top 10. Gum is in there too. Can mobile phone be a hobby?

Ranked in its proper context it is number two in my top top five, behind C. indica and in front of G. spectabilis, vodka, Chardonnay, and Mezcal

Not enough context to the question. Is this asking "How many other things in your life (family, friends, religion, hobbies, job, money, politics, etc) are more important to you than beer?". If that's the question, then I'd have to say beer is top 10. I realize that as I get older some medical issue may require me to stop drinking. I had tapered down to drinking nothing for years before I got into craft, so I don't think I'd have any problem giving it up if told I need to. Right now it's only as important as any other hobby.

I was always curious if your interest in foraging went beyond the gastronomic :sunglasses:

I took the question in the same way as you in that we're only ranking it against other hobbies and not our spouses or health. For me beer would come in behind music and hiking but ahead of bourbon and various other intoxicants. My top 3 all work together beautifully though so it's a shame to rank them against each other.

I really don't rank things on a level of importance. Things are a part of my life, part of my day to day activities. Beer is just one of the many things in my life.
    Cheers:beers:

I really enjoy beer and all the things that go along with it, however I try not to prioritize it over other things that need to get done or prior obligations.

To answer the q - I'd put it last among the things I'd consider to be my hobbies (running, cycling, hiking, reading and a couple of other things) - in the sense that I would rather give up beer rather than any of the above (now if it was giving up alcohol, period - that would require some more intensive mulling over)

I'd say top 10. There's no other form of food or drink that continually offers such new and wonderful experiences as beer. Not to mention all the good times and interesting people I've met through it.

I rely on beer to make a living, so it’s pretty important! As far as a “hobby” goes (weird way to describe drinking IMO), I consider it an accessory to other things I like to do... drinking while grilling, after a hunt or a hike, while sewing jeans, playing pinball, or doing research on whatever “thing of the week” I’m interested in at that point.

Beer and pinball is a very under rated combination. And I like your characterization of beer as a spice that complements other things.
