If a variant is worse than TD, I don’t think I want to be in the same room as a bottle of it.

Greatest Teachable Moments put both of those to shame in the worst variant contest IMO.

 

My old lady was all about both of them, especially Temeculan.

Agreed!!! I feel if FVM had anew flashy name and label this year it would be considered top 3 or 4 for sure. Super balanced and not as sweet as it was last year.

 

It tasted like Pinesol. So freaking weird.

Hell I loved last year's, not going to argue this year's is any worse and considering most people like AB barrels better I agree. Let it skyrocket for all you Varnov holders

 

Had they announced a straight up Apple Brandy variant in the past couple years people would have been going crazy for it.

I think people straight up ignored the description for this year for 2 reasons:

1. A beer with the same name was released last year aged in sherry barrels and was one of the worse variants.

2. They had another beer aged in Carcavelos barrels last year, which is different from Calvados. I think many people mis-read it though and thought it was apple brandy and were burned to find out it was something else. So this year didn't even bother to carefully read the description and just wrote it off as another wine barrel variant.

All reviews I am seeing of this years Varnov have been very good.

 

Yeah, I didn't even check what Calvados barrels were. I assumed it was the same as last year's, which was very meh.

 

Why not change the name or just call it Calvados Barrel Dark Lord? I get something like FVM where it has the same adjuncts every year, but the barrel changes, but when the only thing unique is the barrel and it keeps changing, why give it a name like Cavaliero of Varnov?

 

They think the name sounds cool tho

 

Also, for FVM they've done sauternes barrels twice now. So that one may be dialed in to what they want. You know a significantly worse beer than what they started with.

 

Anyone try the xBBA xDVR or xRBA xDVR - Lower bottle counts and I don't think it was tapped at all during the fest. I ended up with xBBA and am wondering how different it is from BADL by adding in the DVR.

 

Regardless, I'm looking forward to next year's Varnov being aged in Ruby Port barrels and Brosure being aged in Calvados....

 

I believe it's exactly the same except you can fast forward through commercials....
