Initiate doesn’t reflect trading worthiness, more magical beer karma stuff. I don’t rate beers on BA, and don’t post a ton, so I have low karma. Thought that was worth noting.

Can anyone point me to the website that rates beer quality and secondary value before it’s actually ever made for the first time? Haha! I’ll take and the Vanilla Face!

 

This. I have 146 completed trades and am an Initiate. The title truly means nothing, and shouldn’t be relevant when it comes to trading. Number of trades completed? Sure. Title based on total number of posts? No.

How good it is depends on who you ask. The difficulty in trading for it is due to the relatively low bottle release count (~100 bottles), the fact that it is Hill Farmstead, that it took basically 5-7 years to release( it is a blend of French wine barrel aged beers cuveed from 16 months aged to 30 months aged, and then bottle conditioned another 4 years), and that it's possibly the most coveted saison brewed in the US.

I just opened a completed trade thread, and all of the ones covered in that thread are confirmed to have occurred on Beer Advocate. If you want actual users who made the trade, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction. They may be able to help with how they landed one.
