What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #2408

Hope everyone had a good Saturday so far. Made my usual Zetounas run and got 1.5 cases of new stuff to review. Had a Superstition Berry White which was WORLD CLASS. Very much worth the money. Also cleaned up the majority of site edit queue as usual.

Omnipollo Devin pils. Very nice. Nice fluffy head retention/spotty soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big lemon, cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit malts; with moderate herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppercorn hops. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Moderate pine, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and moderately crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light lingering resins. Moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very clean on lager flavors, minimal fruity/yeasty notes. Very flavorful/refreshing, not watery for 5.2%. Great balance between clean pils malts and earthy German noble hops. Zero residual sweetness with crisp dryness. Very well made for the style. 3.88

Mikerphone Smells Like Bean Spirit (Vermont maple/Sumatra Mandheling coffee). As a Nirvana fan, this label rocks! I love maple and Sumatra coffee, so this is a perfect fit. Coming from a maple fan, this has an enormous amount of maple...but there's barely just enough coffee to balance it out. Some chocolate notes come through as well. Reminds me chocolate chip pancakes with coffee on the side.

Long weekend in Montreal. Let's see if they're keeping up.

 

Seeing what the hype about this brewery is. This is very good. Juice for days, which means after one beer I'll be tired of it. Still some bitterness at the back end. Would happily drink one anytime, but wouldn't seek out.

 

Yale is looking great!

Excellent IPA. Fantastic rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, mango, melon, berries, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bread, toasted biscuit malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, pretty refreshing, not overly aggressive, no warmth of 6.5%. The hop profile was pretty much what I expected. Feels like a mix of Hallertau Blanc and classic noble varieties. Very vibrant, dank, earthy, and fairly juicy hop complexity; with a great clean pale malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. I'd buy it again, nice change of pace. Spot on American IPA. 4.03

Yeah, they killed it early and have held off PSU. We sort of relied a little on the faceoff against Duke, and Yale used their advantage in that facet to get a win.

 

Errands were run, lunch was made, lawn was mowed, and pool toys were inflated. Time for the first swim of the year in our pool! I have the Two Hearted, the Mrs is drinking the Tooth and Claw. Off to see the Avengers with our nephew in a little bit.
