Anyone have tips on the best spots? Lots of sponsored ones are below, but I know there are also plenty of less-obvious locations with plenty of good stuff on tap that aren't doing the pay-to-play thing. Please discuss your favorites of either variety here.

So, Philly Beer Weeks kicks off tomorrow and the first thread on this topic is started today?

At the risk of being a 'downer' it sure seems like Philly Beer Week is not like it used to be. The other 51 weeks are good enough that a Philly Beer Week is no longer needed?

    Cheers!

[This conversation occurs every year, but...] I think the lack of interest says much more about the general state/availability of beer than it does about any change in PBW.

As I posted: "The other 51 weeks are good enough...".

It seems to me that we are in agreement.

    Cheers!

On the injured reserve for this year, not even checking up on the city events, though I will likely stop by Capone's on Tuesday for the Hidden River meet up.

It was a stronger event when Don "Joe Sixpack" Russell was the organizer.

I have two particular recommendations. Today, at Bottle Bar East (1308 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia) there will be an amazing array of sours on draught--there always is on the first Friday of Philly Beer Week. Tomorrow, at Johnny Brenda's (1201 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia), a number of firkins will be on offer, and it's rare in this market to have so many available in one place on the same day.

I don't know if South Philadelphia Taproom (1509 Mifflin Street, Philadelphia) is an official Philly Beer Week participant this year, but look for them to have an especially outstanding draught list on the afternoon of the final Sunday of Beer Week. Finally, the Philly Beer Week events at Memphis Taproom (2331 East Cumberland Street, Philadelphia), over the years, have always been stellar.

The bar across the center of the webpage with a square for each day, you can click on each date.

Yeah, the website isn't really that good is it? It's confusing. That certainly doesn't help. there should be small dates in red on there though, and those open the event listings for that day.

Bottle Bar East is too expensive for my tastes. The firkin event at Johnny Brenda's is good though, I might go to that.

It was also better in the past when you could sort events by different areas of the suburbs.

Other than some breweries, Capone's, and Theresa's I don't think I see any events listed for any other bars not in the city proper.

Yeah, and it was also good when it was mainly beer places that were doing events. After they started letting pretty much anyone do events (i.e. some Thai restaurant doing Singha night) it kind of went off the rails.

I know Iron Abbey’s having a few tap takeovers throughout the week and Blue Dog in Chalfont is hosting Unibroue’s brewmaster today. Churchville Inn is having a couple things too.

Never been able to go to a PBW event in the city itself but I’m planning on hitting up the Toppling Goliath event at City Tap House today.
