This thread has me thinking I need to open up a few alt accounts so I can just start having super affirming conversations with myself about all my beer opinions. Enough with the rest of you and your incorrect opinions and palates

He was banned in a previous life so likely had a bullseye on his back, so probably not as tough as you think for him to get banned again.

Personally, I miss him because he was an old "friend", but it is what it is...

early 200os is when it became a "user" site, for lack of better word. I may be the earliest remaining regular user? What do I win? Or better yet, lose.

Pennsylvania is the worst state when it comes to buying beer, prices are insanity (saw a 6 pack of Jai Alai for $16.99 yesterday), limit of 12 beers at bottle shops, and if liquor is your choice all stores are controlled by the state. With the huge prices and sin taxes up the wazoo, our roads still suck and our schools are still underfunded. State schools (thinking about Penn State mostly) also have ridiculous prices even with in state tuition. Makes me wonder what the heck my money is going to! Most likely directly into the pockets of lobbyists!

Be very surprsing if that were the case since traditionally any money or other perqs that change hands flow from the lobbyist to the politician.

BTW that 18% state tax on wine and spirits was put in place to help recovery from the Johnstown flood. :sunglasses:

I had no idea the alcohol limit was a thing. I visited for work hit the bottle shop had 2 buggies of beer and the lady made me figure out and break up the ounces. I had to pay, roll the buggy out to the car come back in and pay for the next batch. I could not pay for the next one until i left with the first one. I made like 6 trips in and out!!

I hardly every drink anything that is not an Ale or that is hop forward . As a medievalist I appreciate history and when I drink ale I am not just engaged physically, but also mentally because it is immersed in culture and history and the artwork on the label captures me. I am certain ale now as compared to hundreds of years ago is different, but it is not precise period accuracy I am looking for; It its the spirit of it. Which is achieved by Gothic artwork or a product that is not overtly anachronistic to the vibe i am looking for.

My not enjoying hop forwards Ales is not so much because of history as it is simply not my preferred taste. I have had Ales that were too hoppy for me but fit the conditions above, so I am open to trying them again. But I just had one on Monday and it was too hoppy for me, so it may be awhile. The artwork was too great not to resist, plus the brewery was somewhat local.

I have heard that Lager was first brewed in the 15th century which is promising for me, but my main historical focus stops after the Mid 14th ct. So I would like to know more, then just one story in 1420. My not pursuing Lager is not because I am opposed to the flavor, as just I feel more engaged in my medievalism when I drink Ale. Maybe I will feel that way about Lager some day, Korbinian has wonderful Gothic art on its label. I could drink it and say its an Ale to keep that vibe, but what BA wouldn't rightly judge me for doing so?

That's highway robbery. I just left the beer store with a case of Jai Alai canned less then 2 weeks ago for $43. But I feel the struggle finding a good deal on PA is like finding gold.

The limit on bottle shops is 192 oz per purchase and has the same impact on Yuengling as any other brewery. It helps to differentiate bottle shops from retail distributors. So the "big boys" are the retail distributors association and their lobbyists.

Yep, 192 oz per purchase from an "eatery" (rather than a retail distributor) that provides food and beer both for dine in and take out. Grocery stores can get licenses to sell beer and wine by running a separate register for those purchases and having 30 seats availble for lunch, etc. Effectively anyone who only sells by the bottle or sixpack has to have enough space to be able to serve food. State law to distinguish between between "bottle shops" and retail distributors.

Visit a retail distributor to buy as many cases as you can fit in your vehicle. Price per bottle will almost always be less when you buy a case.

Delaware is only good for Sierra Nevada. You could probably find better prices in New Jersey. Fuck a bottle shop is more like it. They make PA prices go from high to insane.
