I’m going to grab one for next Sunday’s thread, I hope it’s revolutionary to my beer drinking as Lagavulin was for me with Scotch Whiskey.

It's definitely worth checking out for any drinker that enjoys the smokey flavor in their drinks. I love it and would drink it all the time if they weren't 7$ a can at the only place that carries them near me

Any idea on the date code for them? Ya know , if there’s a slow turning beer this one seems destined to be just that. Talk about a niche market, and I’m sure Rodger isn’t getting rich off these. But worth a shot if it’s in date.

I love the name of this thread. I imagine someone conjuring up some abstract image of their most hated style and then giving it the finger. Like the Simpsons representation of an old man yelling at a cloud. Absolutely hilarious! :beers:

Based on https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...released-in-the-us.593922/page-5#post-6341215 it seems it was released in January. So probably still around about that old, for a while folks were regularly sharing the twitter feed of B United, the importer, but I haven't seen that in a while. Needless to say, it isn't a beer that gets dropped off in the states too often so I'd guess you're looking at a january canning still

My thing is that I like smoke, but peat, well, I waver. If one likes one of those aspects, one should give the other a few fair shakes as well.

Dude, I know it's cliche, but, if you're grilling (bbq'ing to the unwashed), a smoke beer is right there. Drink it whilst manning the grill, but, I suggest a clean, clear Pils while consuming that flesh helps balance things.

    Shrug. Just random thoughts.

With every bottle of Laphroaig 10 yr I buy, I’m looking for something even more extreme. I hear Ardbeg 10 is a peat monster, never had it before, might need to add it to my list. I just love the style, they’re slick, a bit oily, a bit salty, medicinal, smoke you burp up for hours. But they’re not wish washy whiskies, these are strictly love / hate I think. Lagavulin 16 is a bit more restrained, the extra 6 years in the barrel kinda smooth out the rough edges you see in the 10 year old stuff, but it’s 2x the cost here as well.

So it’s approaching 5 months old or it could approaching 17 months old. Given the location of these beers in the store I’m sure they move fairly slow. If you didn’t know where to look you’d miss them entirely. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the older date.

I don't like black IPAs or Cascadian dark ales. Don't like the combination of roast and citrus.

If they're in cans they are from the beginning of this year, it was the first time they canned it (there was also a sense that the cans had a sharper smokiness to them ), if they're in bottles than all bets are off.

Drinking sours in CT, where roughly 60-80% of the beer crafted in-state were all IPAs. Barring Kent Falls as perhaps the only reasonable exception, ales still dominated. Breweries in New England were still chasing Heady Topper and Sip of Sunshine.

That one is not bad, but I'd recommend BBA Bar Fly Smoked Imperial Stout by Midnight Sun. Not my favorite M.S. brew, but best smoke I've tried drinking. Well executed.

smoked stouts are a whole different world from the schlenkerla, it's a light beer ultimately (I would put it in the realm of an amber or old school pale ale), so the smoke has a different relationship to the overall flavor than it does with a big huge stout that went through a barrel

I could live without IPAs. It really annoys me when a brewer announces "new beers" when what they really mean is yet more IPAs. Or when distributors announce a new-to-our-market brewery, and all of the beers they choose to distribute are IPAs. I realize a lot of folks like them so that's where the market is, but many people assume that beer=IPA. It doesn't.

Just back from a US trip and was disheartened by the lack of variety. Pretty much all that was on offer was sludgy IPA, pastry Stouts and sour beers with all knds of shit in them.
