I had an uncle that had the same teeth as a monkfish, not a good look.

 

Monkfish caught in OBX, NC. Great place to fish but not to swim the last couple of years. Too many drownings. Too many shark attacks.

Review 8600. Rum barrel old numbskull. 2017 vintage. This was fantastic. Nice fluffy head retention/spotty foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big raisin, plum, fig, cherry, date, peach, apricot, orange, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, pear, red apple, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine hops; with moderate agave, rum, toasted oak, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread/crust, biscuit malts; lighter notes of oaken vanilla, toffee, molasses, herbal/floral/grassy hops, and yeast earthiness. Slight booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness; and rum/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; balanced creamy/bready malts, sticky hops, rum tannins, and some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin and rum/oak tannin dryness. No cloying/astringency. Dangerously smooth, not overly aggressive. Mild increasing warmth of 12%, minimal lingering barrel booze. Perfect balance between citrusy/earthy C hops, fruity yeast, and Rum barrel presence/integration; with a great balancing dark/bready malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering bitter/tannic dryness. Not as impressive as the base beer as expected, but it's not as boozy on the rum as I expected. Aged really well. Spot on American style barleywine. 4.2

It actually doesn’t have a year on the bottle that I can find but it says release #100. Certainly not infected. I have only had it once before, perhaps three years ago or more. It’s very good but it’s been too long for me to compare to previous time other than to say that i had it hyped up in my mind and really it’s just a tasty beverage, not an out of body experience.

It's starting to get sharky on Cape Cod now. There are a ton of seals around here now and that's bringing them in. Fishermen love sharks ,hate seals. Chamber of Commerce loves seals because tourists think they are cute puppy dogs. Truth is seals are nasty and vicious and ruin fishing.

 

Out in Oregon for the week BA. Good beer and good pizza at Crux Fernentation.
