Oh, it's eight AM on a Thursday
and my third load of laundry is in...

Good day BAs! Back to our normal daily rain today. Today's New Breakfast Beer is actually one I first (and prior to today, last,) had back in 2006, long before I became aware of BA. I must say, it's no more impressive now than it was then.

    Good morning BA
One of my rules is that kellerbiers and maibocks are to be bought on sight. I saw this the other day while out of town...
Unfortunately, age (stamped 09.2019) and room temperature store conditions have made this beer less delicious than it could have been. Still nice, but missing some pop. Cheers all!

I go back to work tonight starting six 12 hour nightshifts after twelve days off. Probably going to grab one of my "other beverages" to ensure a good nap. Cheers all!

Schwechater Wiener Lager - this was Anton Dreher’s brewery, making this likely the original beer of the style. I’m not sure if there has been any recipe changes, but if not, this is the Pilsner Urquell of the Vienna Lager family - but having been developed only a year before that Czech brew, it quickly lost most of its appeal to European audiences when Pilsner became king. Although, I’m not sure if Dreher was the first to produce “bottom fermented lager beer” as the label suggests, when Lager had been produced in Bavaria and presumably Austria too since 16th century. Nonetheless, he made a solid beer, balancing sweet and dry fairly well and some noble hop pop to keep it dry and crisp, although there’s also a bit of rusty tasty along with it too.

    Prost!

[IMG] [IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Snulip glass at the source. Pours a very hazy yellow, with a half finger sticky white head that leaves thick streaks of lace as it slowly settles yielding excellent retention. 4.5

Smell is papaya, honeydew melon, mandarin, and pineapple. 4.75

Taste follows juicy as hell, with little bitterness. Papaya, melon, mandarin, and pineapple. 4.75

Mouthfeel is Yogi bigger than your average beer, soft and sticky, gentle carbonation, and at 8% ABV insanely crushable. 4.75

Overall this is another gem from these guys, juicy as hell and just excellent. 4.5

Good morning, all! New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red, from yesterday's WI haul. The brewer calls this a "marriage of wine and beer... with over a pound of Montmorency cherries in every bottle." That sums it up nicely. Sweet cherry wine with a light malt backbone and a hint of hop bitterness. Absolutely scrumptious. Pairing with Wisconsin cheese curds - of course. Life is good. Cheers!

Odd Side Ales -- Rye Hipster (one of the beers I picked up while in Ohio this past week)...

    4.47/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.5

Dark brown body, nearly black in appearance; extremely dense and creamy head, very thick. Deep and rich aroma mixing notes of cocoa nibs and bitter chocolate; mocha and coffee notes. Big chocolate flavor with maple sweetness and strong yet complementary alcohol presence; roasted grain. Heavy body; thick and sludgy; boozy heat tempering moderately sweet residual sugar bulk.

This is a bold one. Dark and rich in flavor and aroma although I didn't pickup any specific rye notes or bacon. But for an imperial/breakfast/pastry stout, this one has balls. My sample has the following date info: MFG 11/12/18. This certainly has aged well. It is definitely a beer meal feast in a bottle...
