If you stay away from the obvious sugars like pop(replace with water), candy bars and etc., cut the carbs, portion control and eat meat and veggies. Its not that hard to control your weight. Throw in a little exercise and you will feel better big time.

I was thinking same, curious if folks consume a lot of soy, that can jack up your levels and actually raise estrogen in men.
Heavy weights and other large muscle activities will elevate T in men and thus reduce the girly effects. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have man boobs myself. Unfortunately, you can do everything in your power and you will still have them although they will not be as pronounced. The one way to minimize them is to cut weight with good nutrition and exercise.

Chest exercises help to an extent. If you build muscle underneath, it can make your man boobs look even bigger.

The following article gives its take on the subject. But its all about hormones and how you influence them one way or the other. Age, diet, whatever.....

I am in fairly good shape and besides beer i don't consume that much. Benching has decreased the tits but still the fat seems to like it there. Some have suggested surgery but that seems a little rigorous.

Na, don't go that route. I would try and increase cardio and watch carbs/calories etc. One of the best add on's to workout are push-ups, simple and very effective. Basically the issue is fat, there is no magic pill to spot reduce so the best goal would be overall weight loss. One thing that also works great is how you eat. I aim for my largest meal first thing in the day and I cut back from there making dinner my smallest meal. Each person is different so play with ideas and routines etc.

I don't think it causes it but I believe the lifestyle does. Drinking adds calories, drinking decreases activity/exercise, the end result are increased calories and less burned due to sitting around more. I would not go so far as to say beer causes a hormone shift, I would opt to believe the massive calorie add is more to blame. Look at a typical beer today, take that by how many each week, that is a ton of added calories. Oh forgot the other major add, when drinking people tend to eat more crappy food or fall off their diet thus even more calories. Add all that together and its easy to see how people pack in on fast.

I’ve been interested in trying some of the low carb craft beers. I read a couple of articles recently that have sparked my interest. Have you tried any of the craft low carbs? Any recommendations? As far as calories are calories I agree with your doc. The trainer I worked with when I changed my eating and exercise habits said the same thing. I also learned that if you put the right mix of calories into the system you can affect how your body burns the calories, if you’re working out with consistent intensity. For me I try to find a balance of being able to experience the things I enjoy (food and drink), in moderation most of the time, and working out. What I am confident in understanding is if I can do it so can anyone else. My one regret is that i didn’t make the change 10 years sooner. Cheers!

I think he was making the point that if you don’t put the right mix of things into your body your work in the gym will be limited. My routines are basically 40 to 50 minutes of cardio interval work in the AM and about an hour of lifting in the PM. The routine and resulting daily calorie burn allows me the luxury of enjoying more of what I want to eat and drink. If I wanted to cut weight and drop body fat to a level to gain a cut look, it would definitely be because of the calorie combination not any additional work in the gym. For a while I gave that a go and just wasn’t enjoying life as much. I missed having a beer or an occasional slice of pie. I have a good balance today and take off my shirt at the pool or beach with confidence and even get ogled by middle aged ladies. Good for the confidence of an older guy.

Lagunitas "Day Time" is 3 carbs and excellent! Dogfish "Slightly Mighty" is also very tasty and less than 4 carbs. I am also down 44 pounds and low carb beers have helped make the diet much more tolerable. Let's see...Do I want half a piece of bread or 3 IPAs .....

Touché. I think being single has a much different effect, too. Being single gave me a reason to try and shape up. Even though I am now married, I still work out. But, I don't have the strict diet I once did.

Many great low abv beers out there now. I used to drink mainly double ipas and now just for a treat. Since the first of the year I have been low carb, low sugars.
Used to eat bread with butter every day, 2 grab bags of chips every day, lots of pasta. No chips at all for 5 mo's now, almost zero bread, pasts only for a rare treat. Second helpings every day now only one. Used to eat power bar for breakfast , now yogurt and blueberries. Havent done any fast food for years and no frozen stuff so had that down.Good thing was we started walking 3 years ago and 2 mo's ago started kettlebelling routine. Blood sugar levels now much better and cholesterol too. Down from 271 in January to 255 now. The trick with beer is that, well, I'm a beer drinker!. Still have a little more self control to learn but have made great strides. So thats my story of diet and beer.

My wife is a trainer, and this is absolutely true. She tells her clients all the time - you can't out work a bad diet. The gym will help how you look when you lose weight, but the weight is lost in the kitchen.

I was never overweight with a big belly but after moving to Texas I was eating too much Tex-Mex and drinking too much beer. Started to get pudgy and jiggly. I cut weight by cutting out all the obvious bad foods and no alcohol. All the extra weight just fell off. I think it's more about a person's goals then anything. How much weight needs to be lost? How hard are you working to achieve the weight lose?If you need to lose serious weight, stop drinking, especially when you're eating.

I got deep into cycling last year and I lost 15 pounds without changing my diet or (more importantly) beer intake whatsoever. This year I've cut back on beer in a big way and started to bring killer salads to work for lunch. If I see good results, my reward will be a summer of good beer while I ride about 120 miles per week.

Pretty much saying the same thing, fat is the culprit and having excess fat lowers your T levels.

"The natural question is: Why are men suffering from lower testosterone? The easy answer is fat. The heavier you are, the lower your testosterone. Or maybe more appropriately: The more fat you carry, the more aromatase you produce, an enzyme that converts your testosterone (the good stuff) into the female hormone estrogen. This is what will make you look softer, harms arousal, and even makes you more emotional. By cutting down on your fat, you’ll have the greatest impact on ensuring that you continue to produce more testosterone and stay young as long as possible."
    https://dailyburn.com/life/health/the-truth-about-low-testosterone/

I have worked out / lifted for 20+ years and while lifting heavy weights like squatting is great for strength it only gives you a temporary T level spike and is terrible for your joints. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn the less fat you carry. And the average guy doesn't need to lift his max on a particular exercise every time to achieve muscle growth. Eating healthy fats and the occasional steak or hamburger also bumps T levels.

A common sense approach for most people is all that is needed. But there is no such thing as isolating an area to reduce fat. Stomach exercise alone aren't going to reduce your waistline and benching isn't getting rid of your man boobs.
