Good morning, all! Might as well get this show on the road. This is Monk Town, a Belgian-style dubbel from Madhouse Brewing, Des Moines, IA. Santé!

    Have a nice Saturday BA.

7.5 year revisit, and with a fresher bottle than before. Been wanting to do this for a long time. This was fantastic. Lasting fluffy head retention/thick soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red apple, peppercorn, clove, and light banana yeast; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bready malts; with lighter notes of vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness; and herbal, floral, grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, medium body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and some oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter/spicy dryness, no cloying/astringency. Dangerously smooth sipper, minimal warming 11%, no barrel booze. Not nearly as much barrel as I expected, but 8 weeks is not a significant time anyways. Base tripel is spot on. Well rounded Belgian yeast complexity, balancing earthy hops, and a clean pale/wheat malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. Would buy again given the chance. 4.23

Good day BAS! No rain for 24 hours - possibly a new record this year. Today's New Breakfast Beer, sort-of-local-but-not-really:

Kind of mild for an IPA from Victory, mild but good!

Fantastic flavored stout. Amazing lasting fluffy head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, maple syrup, molasses, toffee, vanilla, cream, toasted biscuit, roasted nuts, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery hops; and roast/charred bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; very creamy, silky, velvety, bready malts; some sticky hops, chalky roast, and light slickness in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering hop/char bitter dryness; no cloying, acrid, astringency. Dangerously smooth sipping, mild increasing warmth of 10%, no lingering booze. Amazing balance of super rich black/roast/bready malts, maple syrup, and lactose; with balancing earthy hops, and restrained fruity yeast notes. Light residual sweetness with lingering hop/char bitter dryness. Spot on stuff for a dessert stout.

Fantastic wet hopped IPA as expected. Lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of huge tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, biscuit dough malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 7.4%. Amazing Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic profile. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a great balancing bready malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. Another easy winner from Lagunitas, will buy a 2nd pack. The hop bill is everything I love.

Incredible brown ale. Aromas and flavors of big caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, cream, raisin, toasted oats, biscuit dough, and brown bread/crust; with light notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, molasses, herbal/grassy hop, and yeast earthiness. Very mild herbal/grassy bitterness and cinnamon spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety mouthfeel. Slight sticky hops, chalky roast. Slightly increasing lingering bitter/spicy dryness, no cloying. Insanely smooth, 5.5%. This was wonderful. Spot on English style. Very rich/well rounded malt complexity and balanced raisin/spice/lactose flavors; with restrained fruity English yeast and mild earthy hops against sweetness. Glad these finally hit the state.
