You must be retired. I couldn't care less about what beers are out of code besides the ones I want to buy. And if they are out of date, I'll just get something else. Not really a big deal.

Hard not to notice when you still have month left and your out of money. Retailing beer right now would be absolute insane given the current market and major comp from beer/wine warehouses. They live off selling wine and AALs, kegs, some places crawlers and such, and they don’t have to sell much craft at all, and honestly it would be a pain in the ass. They probably get the best prices from the distributors based off volume too, making it extra tough on mom and pops. Being a distributor is where it’s at I’d guess, they really take the least amount of risk in the whole chain.

Maybe until the retail buyers figure out how to purchase. Seems to me the distributors are the first part of the problem.

Agreed, Distributors are a huge problem for retailers, especially in allocating special releases. Retailers, the smaller ones anyway are really pulling back, they are at a huge disadvantage over the bigger warehouses, smaller shops specialize in craft and I’d guess AALs make up a very large percentage of the super stores beers sales. So advantage to main stream beers sold in volume at a better price than mom and pop can get.

    Here it went from 19 bucks a 6pk to 14 and from a $10 22oz to a $5 19.2oz.

Just got my first can of this and it was as good as ever to me. Surprisingly light drinking for such a big beer. I think I paid around 6$ (got food too and didn't pay close attention) for a 19.2 at a place that is usually a hair pricier than the cheapest options.

Plenty of people still like west coast IPA. Obviously a lot of people go for juice bombs, but the market looking for something else is substantial.

Still a pack of Enjoy By 1-1-19 at my local grocery store. Cheers?

my favorite thing about this beer is getting to see who the really shady retailers are. You know the ones who just turned their display bottles/cans around once the prominent date had passed...

Those 19oz cans are fun, but for fucks sake are the prices stupid; I think I saw it for like $8 a can. Reminds me of those 32oz Lag Sucks shelf-turds from a few years back.

To be fair, I never remember this beer being light, crisp, or fruity, but rather big, resinous and a little boozy.

I love WCIPA and at the same time I gave up on Stone long time ago. I don't like heavy, syrupy, resiny, boozy, and, last but not least, overpriced stuff. If this stands for WCIPA definition, it's not IMHO my definition. I'd rather go with Swami's, Pliny, Pig, Amalgamator, whatever from El Segundo is available, etc.

It’s been forever since I’ve had this, and it
I’m drinking one now, the first EB I had I don’t remember being this big of a beer. Has this always been 9.4%? I don’t really rate or keep notes, but I thought the first ones introduced were a bit fruity.

Maybe it was just a bit more Mosaic-y (fruity), in my opinion, but that's all relative to your palate at the time you last had it and what bottle it was. Think to back when you (probably) first tried it: your average IPA was bitter as all hell, piney, resiny. Enjoy By probably was much more fruit-forward tasting to your average IPA back then in 2012-2013 (at least I know for me it was....Deschutes Fresh Squeezed being the only fruitier one back then).

Fast Forward to 2019: the most IPAs are late-hopped with those trendy new high alpa acid hops adding very little bitterness in comparison. Add to that the general decline in ABV of your average IPA in general (I shit you not, almost every hazy/NEIPA wanna-be is like 5%....I always think "that's a fucking Pale Ale, stop shitting me guys"), it's definitely a case of palate shift....well, at least for me it was.

TL;DR = the beer didn't really change, everything else did.

Sounds reasonable, I was seriously expecting another beer. No idea how to research it, but has this always been a 9.4% abv beer?

Man, I pay about 24 bucks a case for Stone. Gotta love Costco. That being said, if I could get anything from El Segundo without driving 3 hours I'd do a little happy dance. I do love Pig too.

Availability is a huge factor. I get it. Still I choose not to drink heavy syrupy DIPAs anymore. I'd rather have some rye, or scotch. I'm happy to enjoy pretty good distro of Swami's. Others I mentioned take some effort to get, but it's worth it.

I believe so, at least in that 8.5-9.5 range.
