Is it just me or do all (most) of Lagunitas beers taste similar? I mean this in a good way. I just had Brown Shugga' (awesome), and to me, it tastes like some of their other beers. Is it the hops? Yeast?

couldn't agree more...but yeah, at least they all taste good. I never expect anything interesting or different form them...but they make good affordable beer...

I think they use hop extract so maybe that's the reason?

Most of them taste similar to me, and I am not a big fan. But to each there own. I can see where people find them similar however.

House yeast strain may impart similar flavors. Similarities among recipes may also have something to do with it. Hop extract is probably not the case.

I thought it was pretty well known that hop stoopid uses hop extract...wouldn't be surprised if they used it in other beers as well.

Meaning not the reason for the similarities? Or meaning that they probaby don't use them?

Meaning that the hop extract is probably not contributing to the similar flavor which is being noticed.

I need to disagree with this. My 3 fav Lagunitas beers are Stoopid, Sucks, and Sumpin Sumpin. And I think they all taste very different. Maybe it's just me...

They do have a "signature" taste to their brews, and I love it.

I always figured it was primarily the yeast and then similar hopping methods/varieties.

I love Stoopid and Sucks. To me Sucks tastes like a hopped up Stoopid.

(BTW I can't wait for Sucks to come out again. When they release it again, shouldn't it be called "Lagunitas doesen't Suck")

I dunno, their imperial stout doesn't taste like a typical "Lagunitas" creation to me, but its super tasty and a super good value brew.

Speaking of breweries that have a similar taste across their products, 21st Amendment beers all seem to have this wheat or hefeweizen taste to them.

Haha oh yeah now i remember them talking shit about the big breweries using extract. Its been a long time since I've had Hop Stoopid.

They totally have a house flavor, which is likely their fermentation with a single yeast strain coupled with their brewing process and common ingredients across many of their beers. Most good breweries have an identifiable house flavor, and I think it's a good thing. Think Stone, Sierra Nevada, Rochefort, Ayinger, Fullers... they all have an identifiable flavor across their lineups.

When I tried Waldo in April I could swear it was Sucks. It didn't suck, of course. Just tasted like Sucks.

Yeah, I feel that the IPA, Red Ale, Maximus, Lil' Sumpin' and even Daytime all taste very close to one another. Sucks and Brown Shugga both stand out to me but still have that same hop flavor like the others. Still, they're all great beers and a lot of breweries have that same issue amongst their beers' flavor profiles such as DFH (Theobroma tastes like Midas and Poppaskull tastes like Sah-Tea), Rogue, Southern Tier and even CCB's lower alcohol beers. If it tastes good, it's not a problem. If it's not good or becomes boring, then it is.

I agree it doesn't suck but its a using sarcastic humor I have to assume they got the idea from primus who's slogan is "primus sucks" even though they definitely don't suck, but back to the topic i can see that some of their IPAs do have a similar taste but I always assumed that was because they are the same style from the same brewery but they definitely can be distinguished in my opinion

I think they all taste similar as well and too big of a citrus/grapefruit flavor. Not a fan. Just had the Brown Shugga on tap this Saturday and it was good though (however I drank it right after an Arrogant Bastard). Maybe I had a bad batch the last time so maybe I'll try again.

I'm Gunna have to disagree, loved maximus, undercover, imperial Red and wilco tango. But found little sumptin, sumptin horrible.
