Deep and clear dark copper body; fine carbonation bubbles, slowly rising; thin yet lasting head, a bit creamy; rings of lacing adhere to the glass. Big sweet and roasted grain aroma; brown sugar; dried figs; lots of caramel; spicy. Big time sweetness and caramel flavor; figs and dates; subtle booze. Heavy and rich mouthfeel; tons of residual sugars; sticky and oily; velvety and chewy; some alcohol heat.

A massive masterpiece! One can't avoid getting hit with the big time sweetness and alcohol content, yet the beer has some nice depth and complexity melded into its individual components. Most definitely a sipper and one to enjoy while indulging in a favorite past time like a movie or good book or even web surfing. Powerful...

No beer yet, I have an apt with the SSA this afternoon, I’m going to do it, I’m tired of going to work. Hell I’ll make more money being retired than humping to work every damn day, plus the gas I won’t have to buy.

We get it here, but seems like it’s terminally destined to always be 8 months old. Really good beer, but not that old for $9.

Absolutely. MBC is pricey, and if it's not fresh, it's definitely not worth it.

This bottle is a hair over a month old, and it's freaking delicious - better than I remember, honestly. My "local" has been getting MBC deliveries probably once a month now. The selection is seemingly random (always 2-3 different beers), but always fresh, as well.

Back from Berlin and having a Berliner Weisse at home. A Sour Weisse beer with just 3% abv. Nice for summery days like we are having now in NW Europe. In Berlin this beer usually is mixed with a soft drink or some other beer. Normally best enjoyed from a wide glass by the way.
    Cheers!

The German chancellor Angela Merkel moves around rather silent in Berlin compared to president Donald Trump in Washington. Took me over a minute to realize who was walking next to me. And probably all that time tactical lasers were aimed at my head ...
Normally I don't take pictures of well known people. But this time I needed some evidence.

Light straw color; just a bit of carbonation; fair head, white and frothy with some foam clinging to the glass. Beautiful toasted malt scent; a bit herbal. Brings a warm, toasty taste to the palate; well-balanced hop bitterness; a note of mineral character. Medium body; smooth yet warm; semi-dry mouthfeel.

This beer brings some fine pilsner quality to the beer glass. Balanced and flavorful and easy drinking. Good stuff...

...and, in my opinion, the superior version of"'Willin'"...unadorned and pure...

Normally I'm not a huge fan of the Belgian style of sours (like real sour in taste). But warm summer days are great to explore the unknown (when it comes to Belgian sours that is).

Having a HORAL Oude Geuze Megablend 2019. This is a blend of young and old Lambiek from 8 producers: Boon, De Oude Cam, De Troch, Hanssens, Lindemans, Oud Beersel, Tilquin and Timmermans. I'm no expert in this field, but I guess the blend takes the sharp edge of some real sour taste. Bit like in blended Scotch maybe.

This Oude Geuze Megablend is nice refreshing stuff after all. Nothing to be nervous about. Now chilling a 3 Fonteinen bomber to try one of the coming days ...

    Cheers!

Retirement is great. No more rush hour traffic. Some friends and family suggest I am on the government dole because I collect Social Security and receive Medicare. Not sure why they think that way. I paid into Social Security for 45 years and once you turn 65 Medicare is mandatory (there are some provisions to delay it).

The downside is I tend to drink more (a lot more) and more often (like almost daily) since other than a plethora of medical appointments, I can sleep whenever I want.

I never did go to the SSA office. Did everything online. I was surprised that it is was not as painful as I was anticipating.
