    Yesterday’s trip to the Science Museum was fun...saw a good presentation on the world’s reefs, and one on the Universe narrated by Tom Hanks. Later this morning I’ll head back into the City for more adventures. Have a great Thursday!

    I just took a shot of Tripel Karmeliet without a glass, doesn’t mean I’m drinking it straight from the bottle as the excessive foam would make it unpleasant...

    Reddish-copper looking body; the head pours thick yet quickly fades to a thin, wispy size yet leaves nice fingers of lacing along the glass. Big, sweet malt smell; cherries and figs; spicy. The taste exudes a lot of fine sweetness with elements of figs and raisins; definite booziness; a fair hop bitterness emerges late into the sip. Heavy body; syrupy; a good amount of alcohol heat and dryness in the latter half of the taste.

    I have a feeling this is nearly the same beer as their earlier (late last year/earlier this year) collaboration with 1623 Brewing. The ABV is the same although the hop profiles are slightly different. In any case, this version is a little more appealing, especially visually and with the smell. It packs some noticeable alcohol punch but also seems a twinge too sweet for things. I did not get any real roasted or toffee notes. Still, if a big beer is in order, order this one if you get the chance...

    Mrs. Goot should be under the knife at this time, having a pesky gall bladder removed. The good news is, assuming all goes well, I'll have her home by noon...

    In the meantime, Rocket the Wonder Dog and I are having a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, garlic sausage, and fried rice. The sausage and fried rice are leftovers but heat up well and fit in nicely with eggs. I'd prefer blacks beans instead of the rice, but this still works out...

    Central Waters BBA Cassian Sunset. Picture looks like night with a thunderstorm rolling through, should clear off soon. Now that others have mention gunk in this beer, I was looking for it and spotted some as it glopped into my glass. I fished it out and it was a chunk of gelatin about the size of a small marble. Still a great beer.

    Deep amber gold color with good cap and lacing.

    Aroma of rich caramel malt that has a lifting sort of freshness about it. Mild but present are floral, spicy hops.

    Taste is malty caramel in the Vienna Style except moreso. This is a flavorful brew that displays the malt well without going off into sweetness, rather richness. There is an underlying element of toasted or lightly roasted malt that doesn't introduce roast bitterness but serves to deepen the malt profile. With this level of malt goodness there's little the hops can do but struggle to keep up yet they manage to make themselves known.

    Full texture with balancing carbonation.

    This one could stand up to the spiciest of Cajun Cuisine yet is eminently drinkable on it's own. A few demerits for lack of complexity but oh my, it does deliver a truckload of flavor.
