So today on social media I saw B3 in a post about beer. I decided to google it to see what the beer was, and I noticed there are several beers labeled as "B3" or "B3K" ...my next google search turned up Brett Trois yeast. Could this be B3? Am I totally off from this? Just curious as to what this could be? Probably something silly, but still has me interested now. Thanks!

    Here, it's cool-kid shorthand for "batch 3."

In its best form, though, it's a musical instrument made by Hammond and immortalized by -- among others -- Jimmy Smith, Gregg Allman and Joey DeFrancesco.

I was just going to edit this and ask if it meant Batch 3. Thanks!
I'm assuming this is what it means for all the Transmitter beers "B2" "B3" "B4" etc, and for Wynkoop, green flash, and lagunitas B3K?

I think the Transmitter beers fall into series (B = Black Ale, BdG = Biere de Garde, F = Farmhouse, etc.).

Also, B3K is shorthand for Brew 3000 from Fremont.

Just check out the FT:ISO forums, all you'll see is: FT: BBT13K, ISO:LT004HKLM B4.

Keith Emerson used to stab and beat the crap out of one, many beers have been consumed to the sound of the HB3 with a leslie.

I've actually used B3 and similar in WBAYDN posts to state that I am on beer #3 of a session. Didn't know this already had a meaning.

Yeah so I have been seeing a lot of this. Lists with just B3 or a bunch of other letters on it. How do you know from which brewer? Do you just have to be down with all the abbreviations of all the whales out there?

Sadly, yes. In a post title, if there are a lot of beers being listed, I can understand the need to abbreviate. But apparently typing out batch 3 or any other abbreviation in the text within the post is simply too much effort for whale chasing neckbeards to expand energy on.

I think their logic is that, if you have to ask you don't know it and can't afford/want/know to trade for it. Which is dumb logic but that's where we're at.

Pretty much. Trading is a little ridiculous to get back into now a-days.

I'm pretty sure you're right. People who are interested in obtaining/trading for a bottle of Brew 3000 from Fremont (for example), know what the abbreviation (B3K) stands for. If you don't know what the abbreviation stands for, I'm sure the thinking is that you're probably not going to be interested in obtain/trading for it. I think traders see the use of "clever" abbreviations as a way of sifting out the wheat from the chaff when it comes to prospective trade offers.

This is exactly right. I see the inevitable monthly trade forums post saying they don't understand the mountain of abbreviations there and yeah. - I get it - I don't always either.
But I take this same approach, if I don't even know what it is, then I keep scrolling - clearly I don't need to trade for it.

Well, we're not even to 20 yet, and 20 would be a half-page. Looks like we got some work ahead of us.
