.....and dose each bottle with extract of choice? That way you wouldn't need to do the lather, rinse, repeat thingie.
Curiosity got the best of me. 13 pipette drops of vanilla extract in 12 oz. High Wire Coffee Milk Stout (extremely coffee-forward) produced minimal vanilla aroma and a little more vanilla flavor.

How long did you let the beer age before consuming?

Ha! About 10 seconds (including stirring) before tasting, and 5 minutes max before it was gone. I could have re-capped it but honestly didn't even think about that. It's not part of my normal routine when opening a beer.
Also, it was extract we use for cooking (McCormick's). Probably not the best for beer.

If you're looking to add multiple flavors you could do more than one gallon in the bottling bucket at a time. I've been dosing some of my batches starting with 2 gallons left with some extracts (sometimes bought and sometimes made myself) and adding some more with 1 gallon left. Makes for good variety and if it turns out terrible you only have a few bottles of it and it's a lot easier than cleaning your bucket 5 times.

I believe if one adds the vanilla or other ingredients to the secondary, or less , in the bucket the flavors will mix with the brew and possibly be more noticeable. I've never tryed what you did, just my thoughts.

I just realized I never came back and updated this.

    1 gallon milk stout
This is the kit from Northern Brewer (link in post #1) with no additions. It turned out to be a pretty good beer. One I plan to do again as an all grain kit since I'm switching over to that.

    1gallon chocolate hazelnut milk stout
Same kit with 1/4 tsp hazelnut extract and 1/8 tsp chocolate extract added to the bottling bucket. These extracts definitely changed the flavor of the beer and in a good way but neither came through enough to tell what it was. I'll be upping these in future batches.

    1 gallon coconut milk stout
Same kit with 3/8 tsp coconut extract added to the bottling bucket. I'm not a fan of coconut beers so this was strictly for the wife. She loved it and said the coconut came through perfectly. No change for future batches.

1 gallon vanilla maple milk stout
Same kit with 1/4 tsp maple extract and 3/8 tsp vanilla extract added to the bottling bucket. Vanilla came through ok but only the vaguest hint of maple. Next batch will try both at 3/8.

    1 gallon vanilla milk stout
Same kit with 3/8 tsp vanilla extract added to the bottling bucket. Vanilla came through but not sure if I should leave well enough alone for the next batch or try upping it. Currently leaning towards upping to 1/2 tsp.

Overall this was a fun experiment. It definitely made bottling take longer but with the wife, 12 year old daughter and 9 year old son all helping out it goes pretty smoothly.

Like they say, a family that bottles together, stays together... Or something like that.
