Chicagoland NE IPAs (2019)

I've been out of the loop enough that I can't tell if this is sarcasm.

(Untappd seems to imply it is, but still...my first reaction was "welp, guess I gotta try a Short Fuse beer")

 

bottom line, if you could only buy one producer at this moment, who would it be?

They're far from perfect, but I'd have to go Hop Butcher.

Unfortunately, at least in my opinion, the discussion starts with who has fallen off the least, or fallen off and rebounded, as opposed to who has emerged.

 

Hop Butcher for me. I’m not a resident but I’m there frequently. And I almost always enjoy every HB I buy.

I do like the “availability” caveat that was thrown in. If it came down to ease of obtaining, I’d say Noon Whistle or Marz.

 

For NEIPAs among those I have tried from MW brewers:

1. Old Nation
2. Toppling Goliath
3. Alarmist

 

Haha I was like who the hell is gun craft so I looked them up on Untappd and it appears I’ve actually had their beer at a Sox game. Obviously very memorable.

 

I saw Gun Craft assumed we were making up 2 word breweries so I have my 3 personal local favorite haze bois:

Cucumber Quarry
Elephant Stigma
Dilapidated Farmhouse

Looking for advice on where to find Saint Errant cans. I used to get them at the Naperville Standard Market but that closed down a couple months ago. Since then I never see it out by me Aurora/Naperville.

 

If you wanna go to Geneva, Hammar’s gets Saint Errant cans.

 

Idk why such a low rating for white bouquet. I thought it was as good or better than what I had from trillium a while back. Need to grab more

 

The Binnys in Naperville usually gets the Saint Errant releases. Another good options is Iron and Glass in Romeoville.

 

Open Bottle had White Bouquet and Expanding Symmetry as of about 12:30 today.

In case anyone is looking, they still had Unwind Your Mind and Aspect Ratio too.

 

How have the Hubbard's Cave IPAs and IIPA's been lately? It's been awhile since I've had them.

 

Had one last night. Thought it was great, especially not at fridge temp. Also really liked the Expanding Symmetry I tried last week.

 

So, this is available in Chicago now. Never heard of it but reviews call it a haze-r...

Picked up one from Binny's to fit the Hop Butcher shaped hole in my fridge.

 

While trekking to the Outer Banks in April, I went a bit out of my way to stop at this place given its positive reputation. Definitely a unique spot with good beers and quality dim sum. I was surprised to see this here and split a 4pk with someone yesterday. I haven't gotten into them yet, but had it while there and remember it being really hop saturated but with a bigger malt presence than hazies I'm used to around here. I remember it being good enough to spring for 2 cans of it again yesterday though. I'll be looking for your thoughts of it.

I didn't get the story on how it came to be here. They struck me more as a Forbidden Root type of place.
