Phase Three Brewing (2019)

I liked my first can.
My second can yesterday looked a lot like apple cider. Still tasted OK, but clearly a problem.

 

Just opened one and all good. Got mine from LZ on release day for context

 

I got mine from Binnys, where it was sitting on the floor for a few days. This one was cold since I got it, I have two more that haven't been refrigerated. I'm a little worried about those.

 

Milkshake IPA hits today.

This one sounds pretty awesome; I'm curious if they can pull it off.

 

Look up pictures of the double guava milkshake by Weldwerks on Untappd. Its literally the chunkiest beer ever, I tried it at Nucleate fest and it was straight up floaties, but still delicious

 

first dude on untappd "this is the best by far" - 5.0. looking through his history he also gave chain link and concrete a 5.0. i hate untappd.

 

i thought orange chantilly had a chalky finish which recalled repressed memories of our old pal Tang.

if this is good, i'm going to give WW all the credit. and that's just how I sees it

 

Reminds me of a screenshot I just saved from Untappd on the Vlad Neapolitan release.

Untappd guy: "...not a fan. I came in for four bottles and after I had a taste I lowered it to one bottle"
Also Untappd guy: "3.75/5"

 

Just once I'd like to get a milkshake IPA that is so over the top when I go to pour it an entire chunk of fruit clogs the mouth of the can from pouring....

 

Some of those 450 North beers aren't far from this.

 

RE: Tropical District -- Toss up with Curvature for best Phase Three beer so far, in my opinion. Better than Chantilly Lace, which was my previous second favorite after the stout.

The guava is prominent, the lactose notes are sweet but not cloying, & the mild coconut finish is a nice touch.

If you don't like the style, this won't convert you, but if you're like me & only like a select few, I think you'll find it a superior expression of the genre.

I think this brewery vacillates between average & slightly above average on IPA's, but their milkshake game is definitely above average and based on Curvature, I'm optimistic on the stouts.

Oddly, the Pilsner was the only beer I was unable to try! Maybe the Chicago beer scene is maturing...

 

I like the new shake though not as much as Orange Chantilly. It’s reminds me of a Hop Butcher milkshake which are tasty but run a little too sweet for me. Interesting to attach pina colada flavors to Sabro since people get that from the hop

Any updates on the P3 leaky/faulty can issue that got brought up a while back? I've got a few boxes to get out soon and was thinking about some P3 cans I have as extras, but don't want to risk it if they're gonna make a scene with my friendly package handler.

 

The last 3 or so cans haven't been filled to the absolute top.

Leaking I can't speak to, as I don't mail beer, but unlike earlier releases where beer shot out of the can when opened, the latest beers seem "normal".

Side note: smart to off-load the last 2 IPAs, but keep Tropical District to yourself!!

 

Orange Chantilly was gross.

 

If Binnys Grand is your spot, they just put Tropical District on the floor. There were 4 cases, and one was gone before I left.
