After a couple of heavy stouts and a porter yesterday; I needed something lighter. A palate cleanser of sort and California IPA from Sierra Nevada; a sessionable ale at 4,2% does the job.

Have a nice Sunday BA. Got errands and chores to do as usual today.

Awesome Black DIPA. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, black currant, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, biscuit dough, toasted dark bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery hops; and roast/charred bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; balanced creamy/silky/bready malts, sticky hops; some resins/rinds, and chalky char/roast in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing hop/char bitter dryness; no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 7.8%. Awesome Ella, Mosaic, Falconers Flight, Amarillo profile. Extremely juicy and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a perfectly balanced wheat, oat, black, roasted malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from lingering resin dryness. Spot on stuff, not overly charred on malts. Still waiting for Black IPAs to make a comeback. Got another 4 pack a few weeks ago.

Fantastic as always. Aromas and flavors of huge mango, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lemon, lime, passion fruit, papaya, honeydew melon, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate honey, toasted biscuit, and light caramel malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied. Sticky/resinous hops, with balancing creamy/bready malts in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Mildly increasing warmth of 9.5%. Dangerously smooth. Fantastic Simcoe, Williamette profile. Super juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; nicely rich balanced malt backbone. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering resin drying. Such a delicious DIPA. I love Chillwave more, but this is still always amazing. The main difference is Simcoe hops here, vs Mosaic in Chillwave. This is basically imperial Commodore Perry, minus Cascade hops. Glad we got it this year while it was still fresh. Last couple years we only saw it in August after the best before date! .4% higher ABV this time around as well.

Actually the last beer I had last night, but I wanted to document it after a long day.

Black Lager at Wayzata Brew Works:

I wasn’t expecting much, but the spot on stylistic interpretation impressed me enough that I had three very easy-drinking 4.7% pints while watching a friend’s band play. Looking forward to revisit the place!

Excellent IPA. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bready malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grass, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, not aggressive, minimal warming 6.5%. Great HBC 692, Mosaic, Citra profile; but feels like the 692 has the most presence. Very vibrant, dank, earthy, and fairly juicy hop complexity; with a great clean pale/wheat malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with crisp drying. No complaints.

Drank half the bottle and reviewed the tripel for NBS. Enjoyed & made some notes on the whiskey and watched a Ralfy review. Now & currently finishing the second half of this very nice tripel.

Hoping to be back after a nap. Cheers all & enjoy your Sunday!

Fantastic fruit sour! Dark ruby red/purple color. Aromas and flavors of huge sour/tart/tangy blackberries, raspberries, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, orange, plum, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough malts; light vanilla, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; balanced creamy/bready/grainy wheat, lactic acid, fruit tang, and light tannins in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing acidic/tangy fruit dryness; no puckering. Super smooth, not overly lactic, minimal warming 8.3%. Amazing balance of super jammy berries, Lacto complexity, and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Can said they used 30 grams of vanilla beans for 30BBL. At least it was actually somewhat noticeable. Glad we get Urban Artifact in MI now, will definitely buy this again.

Awesome saison. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart/tangy lemons, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, white grape/wine, peppercorn, clove, coriander, mint, dill, green tea, and light pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough malts; light banana/bubblegum, herbal, floral, woody, grassy hops, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness; herbal, floral, woody, grassy bitterness; and light wheat/fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, medium body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and light fruit tang/acidity in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing bitter/spicy/carbonated dryness. No astringency. Very smooth, pretty refreshing, no warmth of 7.5%. Awesomely well rounded Saison yeast complexity; with balanced juicy, fairly dank/earthy Lemondrop hops and lemon peel flavors; with a great pale/wheat malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with crisp dryness. Another great saison from Vivant as expected.

A new to me IPA this morning; I got this beer at the brewery yesterday - Westbrook’s “Rinse/Repeat - Topaz Nelson El Dorado”:

Mango Papaya Orange nose/taste. A little onion as it warms. Medium minus body and easy drinking. I like! Off to the beach...
