I mean could any one member of your family, by blood or marriage sit down and drink 2 or 3 other half west coast IPAs in a row? The point I am trying to reinforce is PTE is drinkble.

If we want to go down the road of anecdotal evidence, my mom is not a beer drinker but she's tried Pliny and wasn't a fan but has tried a bunch of different OH beers and said they were quite pleasant. I don't think PtE holds up that well anymore and Blind Pig has always been better anyways.

Is PtE drinkable? Yes. Is it also overrated? maybe. I went to russian river a few yrs ago with high expectations considering how much it's lauded. Loved blind pig and enjoyed PtE but didn't quite get what all the fuss was about. Could be (like HT) that it was one of the first very hyped beers before beers were very hyped. The sours on the other hand... those were amazing there.

I have to say coming into the OH thread and trying to prove this point is an... interesting hill to stand on. I've never had PTE, so I have no horse in this race.

At this point these are all unfair comparisons, newer generations of beers have surpassed previous generations, it will happen to Other Half at some point too. Its actually already happened, would any of us trade today's Other Half beer for the 2014 beers? DDH Space Diamonds vs Green Diamonds? Not me.

RR sours are timeless though, a couple of years ago I was on vacation in Hermosa Beach at a great outdoor restaurant that always had RR, between Pliny, Supplication and Consecration it was a divine night!

Totally agree. And just to clarify - I would say "surpassed" in the context of appealing to current tastes. I don't think it's fair to say that DDH Space Diamonds is objectively better than Pliny just because X years have passed and tastes have changed; just that it checks a lot more boxes in terms of what beer geeks are looking for (generally speaking) in a DIPA in August 2019.

As far as drinkability goes though, then yeah add my anecdotes to the OH/NEIPA list. For the sub-style I think Pliny is eminently drinkable. But if I had to roll the dice in terms of giving a hoppy eight percenter to someone who isn't a beer person and hoping they would enjoy it, I'm going with Space Diamonds all day.

Edit - I've mentioned this in the feedback forums before and people seem to generally disagree with me, but I think beers should have an "all time score" (based on all reviews) and a "current score" (based on the last X months/years of reviews). That way if someone goes to CA (let's call this fictional person Bob Hewton), drinks Pliny and doesn't love it, then although they'll see Pliny's all time is 4.69 (against DDH Space's 4.46), they'll see that their current scores are 4.31 and 4.51 respectively, so won't freak out about anything being overrated.

Supposedly "fictional", yet suspiciously very specific.

I like this new trend here, I know a guy named Skyler Moonshot, he proclaims to hate lactose, but when put to the test, he can't tell the difference between a lactose beer and a non-lactose beer.

Out of respect for your status as the last living veteran from the Spanish-American War, I will refrain from retort.

A shame they aren't releasing Mylar alongside Daydream again this week so I could redeem and/or further tarnish my reputation.

    lol!

I actually I do have a can of almost 2 month old Mylar. I am torn between giving you a chance at some sort of redemption if you can tell the difference or tripling down with you not only being able to tell the difference between tose/no-tose but not being able to tell the difference between 1 day old beer and 60 day old beer.

Looking at the new dates - there’s already conflicts on all of the new options, despite only 4-5 people filling out. So may as well stick to this Saturday anyway
