Having a Poperings Hommel Bier. And a refill later on

Came across it earlier this week in a small supermarket in the town of Poperinge itself, not far from Westvleteren. The glass is a nice replacement for my favorite glass that got broken not too long ago. Two bombers of Hommel Bier that came with the glass were more tan welcome of course.

The area of Westvleteren and Poperinge must be awesome for a beercation. St. Bernardus at Watou is also in the area. Only had some glimpses (and ofcourse picked up my pre-orderd beer at Westvleteren). De Struise Brouwers is also near, (East)Vleteren (not been there, only open on Saturdays). Pannepot Reserva on tap an 29 others ...

As @TheIPAHunter would say in this situation, church is in session. Smacked in the face with hops when this beer was delivered to the table.

 

Home for lunch and to assess the damage. I hafta say working in recycling for so many years yellowjackets were a constant starting in summer around the glass bottles roll off, so I have been stung quite a lot, which makes it so I am now sorta immune to bad effects. I stepped on a jellowjacket nest this morning and they got me good, maybe twelve stings, three of em feel like a full dose, still throbbing a bit

BUT... I only mention this, since I am completely okay, to ask you all to join me in a toast to the motherfucking most industrious yellowjacket I ever knew. I tuck my thick pants into my thick socks when I'm out, to keep ticks out, so no chance for this yellowjacket to sting me on my ankle like he wanted. But he actually crawled way into my shoe and managed to get me anyway on my foot! Still can't figure out how he did it, what a heavy duty maneuver! Here's to that yellowjacket!!!

Had a rough day at work today. Was dealing with a hangover from last night. But I powered through and is now kicking back on the couch with what we call a "reperationsbajer". Loosely translates to a "repair beer".

3 Bean Stout by Lervig and Warpigs, a 13% ABV rum barrel aged imperial stout with tonka, vanilla and cocoa beans. It's heavy as hell but the sweetness is super complex. The different beans and the rum barrels gives it so many different sweet notes with some booze from the rum balancing it out. Maybe not a classic reperationsbajer but I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Cheers everyone!

Decadent Coco Lime Citrus Citra

 

It is the proper shape of the glass. And that's most important in my opinion, not the label on the outside. A beer like this needs a wide glass to enjoy it fully. But only when available of course. Belgian students drink beers like this straight from the bottle. It's a shame ...
