Potential Bad Trader

    So, I was hoping to never be in this situation and have always been very careful with who I trade. Always asked the person to ship first if they didn't have enough trading history and such. But now it seems like i'm having an issue with a trader.


    So let me give you some back story. We had an agreed upon date of shipping on 8/5. It is now 8/9 and the trader has completely ignored my messages. She read one in which I asked if she had shipped as agreed upon (which was on 8/7). Since then, I've seen the person online multiple times and has not responded to any of my messages. The trader has been on within the last 4 hours so I can only assume they've seen the notifications from all the messages I've sent.

    My package was sent on the agreed upon date and has now been delivered. So my question is this. How long does someone normally take before they post on the bad trader forum because the other party hasn't kept up their end of the trade? I would think, the sooner the better to prevent similar situations from happening to someone else. Any guidance on what I should do?

    Been awhile since we had one of these. Although it sucks that communication is lacking, might be too soon to put her on blast. Where was she shipping from? If she shipped on Monday, should have been to you by now? I would wait until Monday, if no response, let her know if there is no communication from her you will name her.

    You both agreed to ship on 8/5?

    I'm assuming you provided her with tracking information? Did you ask her to provide tracking information when she shipped? (just curious more than anything)

    At this point, this does not look good. If she's been online and read your messages since the agreed on ship date and failed to provide any response or explanation, I think its been long enough. Especially since your beer has already been delivered. Up to you if you want to try one last ditch threat that you'll out her without a response, or maybe get a mod (@dmbforever) involved, but at this point I think you've got to do something.

    I do always find it amazing though, how well these threads work in getting responses and shipments out quickly in these types of scenarios.

    Yeah, on board with @jrnyc as it’s a tad early to make this leap. That said, fully understand and see your frustration. A user reading and not responding to messages on here is a strike against them in my book. Plus, not communicating where things stand especially after your end of the trade has been shipped and received is never a good look imo.

    Seems like ships dates were agreed, so did you ever get a tracking number from them?

    Did they let you know that your box was safe and sound after delivery?

    Cant edit my post, but @David55555 you don't have an open trade - did you not use the trading system here? Was this a trade through Beer Advocate?

    Man, I was just thinking the other night, are we going to hit 4 months with no BT thread?!

    When I look at OPs trading stats I see 3 open trades. Am I missing something here?

    Agree with others that it may not be time for a BT thread, but the trader in question needs to respond to OP. It never ceases to amaze me how poor communication lands people in here that otherwise could be avoided. As @dmbforever always says, and I paraphrase, "Communication, communication, communication." And I'll add, don't be a complete jackass when you finally do.

    I will await to see if trade was agreed upon on here using the trading system and give it till Monday to name the other trader.

    I do feel like this can be seen as a bit premature, but when a trader has agreed to a trade, accepted the trade, then fails to continue to communicate throughout the process that really makes me wonder if they are going to make right by the trade.

    The trade was initiated through the BA system. So it is one of the open trades I have at the moment. Besides that, we both agreed to ship on the same day (8/5). My package shows delivered, but the same day the package was delivered was the last day she bothered to read my messages. I have messaged her multiple times now, to no response.

    I didn't ask her to send me tracking (originally) because, who doesn't send tracking .I feel like that's a must with any trade. The receiver has to be aware when they are receiving the package so they can make arrangements, if needed.

    If I don't get tracking within 24 hours I usually ask for it. I would also probably have had the shipment turned around with no responses after two days, if I could. Although I've never had to do that so I'm not sure the effectiveness of it.

    So I tried to cancel the shipment after the no response from the trader (and seeing them active for multiple days). But they wouldn't/couldn't cancel the shipment anymore. I guess that's my problem by shipping with USPS. I've only had to cancel a shipment once before and UPS had no problem cancelling and shipping me back the contents (at a cost).

    If she has time to read your message she has time to respond. The lack of response is clearly disrespectful and leads one to believe she have a negative intent. Communication is key and I have no problem giving someone extra time as long as there is active communication. I see this as being proactive, not premature.

    I don't see any other open trades, but I might be mistaken. She is in other trading groups on FB from what I could find. So she might have other trades that are open elsewhere.

    No problem, we had agreed on FVM 19 : EoC b3 with extras on both ends to fill out a box.

    Did you get a phone number and try to reach out that way? I’ve never shipped USPS so i’m not sure if it’s required like it is with FedEx. Just a thought...
