    16 oz. can.
Faint canning date is possibly 07/12/19.
    Definitely 2019.

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch white head over a golden body with nice lacing. Nose of citrus (mostly orange), tropical fruit (mostly pineapple), and slight red currants. Taste mirrors nose very nicely with a smooth experience; finishing with slight currant and orange pith bitterness. Nice feel and overall, my favorite from the new kids on the Waitsfield block.
    Cheers!!!

Happy Sunday NBS players. A perfect summer day here on the island. A crazy busy day for myself and I'm finally home and able to have my first beer of the day. I've lived on the east end of long island and I doubt that will ever change all that much but you never know. I prefer the north fork but have lived and spent plenty of time on the south fork. With a boom of craft beer on the island and the ever expanding ny distribution I don't think its possible to run out of new beer options.

My new beer today is Community Not Commodity, a barleywine, collabo between Barrier/Cambridge brewing but clearly much more Barrier. The brew checks in at 10.8% abv, and has a 1/9/19 canning date.

A murky and ugly dark brown color on the pour with a frothy white head. The nose is rather pungent with sugar, hops, and malt. The initial sips hit big and smooth upfront. Smooth on the flow as well with a finish that goes down sweet with some slight booze. Good notes of caramel, brown sugar, herbal tea, cola, and dark candied fruits. Full bodied with a booze yet rather smooth and dry feel. The flavors do come off a bit muddled/sloppy and they don't really pop as much as I would like. Makes the drinking a little boring.

Overall, not bad but nothing really all that great either. Probably score it in the 3.5 range but I'm gonna finish the glass and ponder on that a bit.

I'll just be down to 6 days a week of work Mon-Sat. It will be so nice to have a regular day off work, and the first time in way too many years.

In answering the question why live where I live. It was a job, sure wasn't due to the beer scene. Northwest Arkansas is a great place to live & the beer scene is coming along. Far better than when I moved to Oklahoma 10 years ago. We are still playing catch up even to Oklahoma, honestly, we have better laws in this state for start ups, so that helps.

My one NBS beer is Lost Forty ( State's Biggest & arguably best Brewer ) High Praise Belgian Style Tripel; 10.5% ABV. 3.65 overall

Pours an effervescent amber with a thumb of cream colored head. Average head retention & lacing

    S: Some grassyness, a little juicy-fruit gum

T: Follows the nose, a little pineapple, booze, rubberbands & cloves up front, along with leafy hops. A little pineapple, more juicy-fruit, candi-sugar dryness along with leafy & grassy hops as this warms. Pretty dry finish with golden delicious apples and not much else

    MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation

A pretty good take on the style, was hoping for a little more subtlety, boozeyness, a little to much

Jackie O's Oil of Aphrodite - Rum Barrel Aged

Poured from a 12.7 ounce 2019 bottle into a Lost Abbey long stemmed tulip. Dark inky body with almost no head. Smell and taste are of boozy molasses and licorice with maybe some other flavors which I think is great. Mouthfeel is full and oily without being overbearing. This is another outstanding Jackie O's offering.

I approached this with some trepidation. First of all I had two 2018 barrel aged Dark Apparitions get infected; tried them both on the same night and drain poured both. Fortunately the bottle shop where I snagged this has it on tap (for more jack per 10 oz than this set me back) and I'm confident they'd have made me whole. Also my experiences with rum barrel aging haven't been some of the better ones. I know I've tried rum barrel aged Pumking and thought it was worse than the original and I'm sure there are others that aren't coming to mind now. But Jackie O's knew what they were doing here. I'll try to snag another bottle.

    16 oz. can.
Moderate pour yields a one inch dark tan head over a near black body with some sticky lacing. Nose of roasted malt, vanilla, bubble gum (?), and peanuts. Taste mirrors nose with peanut butter leading the way right through the finish. As it warms there is a sort of malted milk chocolate flavor as well. Nice feel and overall, well, they certainly succeeded in a fluffernutter kind of way. Cheers!

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch pure white head over a light golden body with some sticky lacing. Nose of bread, biscuit, slight spice, and yeast. Taste of rye with a bit of spice. Nice creamy mouthfeel and finish. Overall, a nice little session beer and would recommend and drink again.
    Cheers!

    Well Hello Late Night NBS.
I am very happy to report that among all of the chaos this week I had a nice reprieve on Tuesday. Scrambled out of work with a fair amount of enthusiasm for my much anticipated handshake tick with our highly esteemed @Buck89 and his better half at Bottle Logic. Such good people. I was behaving myself with small pours of lighter offerings due to my need to drive home. But I must admit, the conversation and company was so rich, the time passed in a blink of an eye. A very nice time. I look forward to meeting up again, hopefully sooner rather than later. And thanks again for the nice contraband (bottles and cans). Very nice of you to pack so much on a flight just to dump on my sorry liver.

    Speaking of John's generosity:
Another Suggestion a DIPA from Southern Grist

Can stamped: "A fist bump is a sacred contract 7/11/19" Indeed.
Bright, turbid straw to gold in hue. Fluffy white head. Dense at first, slowly retreats to a consistent loosely packed blanket of clumpy foam a half finger or so high. Good retention, scattered lacing.
Smell is well, a melange of strong tropical notes, non sweet pineapple, some bright young dank notes, a bit of pepper, then finally some citrus, and a bit of pine.
Taste is very faithful to the nose with a gritty yeastiness that comes through as well. Thankfully the citrus does not surrender to the Nelson. (I must state that Nelson is not one of my favorite hops, so caveat emptor before considering my opinion).
Mouthfeel is active and fluffy, and slightly full for style. I like that.
Overall, there is a LOT going on here. If you are a Nelson fan, dive in. You'll love it.
