So i just got back from my local bottle shop i visit regularly, and got a single bottle of BCS Coffee and FW 16, and $60 of regular beer stock, buffalo trace, etc.

While i was there a dude came in and asked for BCS Coffee, the manager asked him how he had heard they had it there, and the guy said he was driving around store to store looking. Terry the manager said "I am holding it in back for our locals, to take care of the people that regularly shop here".

    Well done Terry, well done.

Also, from the time the truck got there till both cases were sold out was <30mins. Good thing i wasn't working and live a block away.

Welcome to the corn fields around Chicago, in Chicago it would probably be <5mins. Youd have a better chance of getting a bottle if you bought a ticket and stood in line for 12 hours.

Yeah, he's losing out on potential new regulars by being like that.

No, the guy lived 25 miles away. He is making me and other regulars want to support him more.

Those of us who buy 90% of our beer from him, including hundreds of dollars of regular bottles, are who he needs to make happy, not the chasers who only buy a rar bottle every 2 months.

Just got back from my local shop with a couple Olde Hickory Event Horizons. Me and my buddy are locals. He couldn't make it today and the owner was more than happy to hold his limit for him. Good beer karma!

No he is preserving the limited / special / rare stuff for his locals who might come in to buy $60 worth of "normal" beer and not selling the limited stuff to folks who are driving all over creation looking for 1 -2 special releases. Folks who have to drive a half hour (hour round trip) to get to your store aren't ever going to be regulars.

My local store does the same thing, and its why I support them.

    Cheers!

ALSO, can i suggest that proper limited release etiquette be that when you get lucky on a release, you also buy *at least* a common tasty 6 pack, to support the shop and say thanks, especially if you get a bottle from an out of your way destination.

I never said it was a bad thing, it's actually pretty neat. But there's no doubt that other guy was upset lol.

While I agree that it's best to treat your locals with some love, you also have to respect the fact that every store needs a healthy influx of "new" regulars. Maybe he's not a regular at your store, but he may be a regular at another store that didn't get any BCS Coffee. Or maybe he's been driving all over to get a bottle of something that sells out as fast as it's unloaded from the truck (you said 2 cases sold out in <30 minutes). I don't like truck chasers as much as the next person, but this may have been someone that was legitimately trying to find a bottle and now he gets turned away because he's characterized as a "non-regular". And I bet he won't go out of his way to become a regular either. Every story has two sides.

Does the story change if he had 17 bottles in the back seat of his car?

Sounds like terrible customer service to me. Basically saying, yeah we have it but you can't have any.

F that. great way to make sure you don't get new customers. I would understand if they work on a reserve system, but a 'you ain't from around here' mentality is ridiculous.

Store managers take note: If your in this situation just tell the guy from far away you only got a little in and its all been spoken for. This way you don't make the regulars mad and you don't offend the non regular. I'm getting sick of these limited releases getting harder and harder to get. It's guys like this who just drive around looking for them that's the problem. I'm not as persistent as most of the people on here and I don't keep track of all of the release dates. There are a couple that i do search out. But for the most part I show up and gets what there and enjoy alot of the more widely available seasonals. However, I am starting to miss out on the beers I used to pick up like Pumking for example didn't get any this year besides on tap. Now I have to either start trying my ass off to get these beers or miss out on them

Lame story. What if his local shop didn't get a case? It reminds me of beanie babies for some reason. Luckily goose island is going big beer. I wonder if a Budweiser plant could handle making a 15% beer. They could make it close to Kentucky and drop it into thousands of bourbon barrels in some nondescript where house. Then everyone can try them.

Bravo. Always good knowing you have your back covered with coveted goods. Get cool with the beer guys, shop regularly, and sometimes a bone gets tossed your way.
