Ah then this is right in line with how it always is. Date code is 7269 which, if some googling is correct, means it was bottled the 26th week of 2019? So mid June? That would explain the impressive nose.

Looking at the bottle more closely now I'm surprised to see it's nearly 6% ABV. This would be awfully dangerous by the liter with how light and drinkable it is!

Awesome! Weihenstephan usually bottles in June if I recall correctly, which is great. I think out of all the main imports they bottle the latest. I don't understand any of them bottling any earlier than that.

    5.8% I think?

Yup, making the style drinkable is the whole point. Ever been to Oktoberfest?

According to this link at least, Hacker-Pschorr's is 5.8% and is the weakest. Hofbrau's is 6.3% and is the strongest.

A few liters in and you're uh, feeling pretty good to say the least.

Indeed 5.8. It tastes so light (in a good way) I would have guessed 5 and under blind.

Never made it to Germany yet unfortunately - someday!

In addition to @ChrisLohring 's post about the Notch Mobile Biergarten Bedford Oktoberfest, we'll also be hosting a mobile Oktoberfest at Stevens Coolidge Place in North Andover on Saturday, September 14. We'll have a similar beer lineup as well as German food, German music and other gemutlichkeit You can find more information as well as a ticket link at the Facebook event.

    Event:

    Party on!

Agree with the sentiments on the SN Oktoberfest, bought a 12-pack, and have only had one bottle, but really didn't love it. One dimensional or something; malty but not in the way I want an Oktoberfest. Hoping to enjoy it more in subsequent bottles.

Working through some beer in my fridge this weekend but then picking up some favorites. Ayinger is typically my favorite.

If someone could copy and paste the Notch event info here, I'd be stoked. No FB. That's in my hood. I'd like to go if I can.

Which one? The Salem, North Andover, or Bedford one?

I don’t have FB either and the links usually work fine for me.

Thanks for the tip. The trustees website says the event is Friday the 13th though. Can you confirm which date is correct? Thanks!!

They're both right, @meefmoff . Our Oktoberfest is on Saturday the 14, but we'll be hosting biergartens at Stevens Coolidge Thursday- Sunday. The Saturday is ticketed with the band and liter mugs, the Thursday and Friday are simply open biergarten hours and Sunday is also hosting a craft fair.

The Paulener has landed (both kinds). And it is good. $13.99 a twelver at Rapid. Best buy of May 2020.

First impression of the Weizn is that it is not as good as Weihenstephaner's, which if I recall correctly is the opposite of my thoughts last year. It's a bit rounder and has something of a nutty character. The nose doesn't compare either (which could just be age./storage).

Can someone educate me on the best buy date coding? How do you determine the brew date? Is it 6mo? 12mo? Thanks!

It's a great question but unfortunately there's no set rule - different breweries have different best buy date guidelines. With some googling (or forum searches here on BA) you can often find the time window but not always.

I *think* Paulener uses a 12 month best buy window which would make the beer I mentioned above born this past May.

    Good beer knows no season.

Lots of Jamaicans drink 7% Guinness FES, Dragon Stout in 90+ degree weather. Explain me that!:wink:

Yeah I believe it will be, recall having it in the past.

Think the liters will be $17 this year? Seem to go up $.50 each year. Maybe they see Bronwyn’s pricing & think they’re leaving $ on the table.

I went to this last year, it was really nice chillin' around Bow Market in beautiful weather drinking some Oktoberfest beer. Saw @Jason there as well.

And goddammit! Too many events on September 28th. Zwanze Day, Olde Magoun's all day Oktoberfest, and this.

I may be going to Portland for Zwanze, and I'd hate to miss all of this. I'm kind of curious how Zwanze goes at Row 34 (ticketed event, unlike Lord Hobo's in years past).

Last year I believe we went to Bow Market, then over to Lamplighter's Oktoberfest, then to Lord Hobo to see if there was any Cantillon left for Zwanze.

    Wow, really.

I remember the price was about $12-13 back in 2011 when I went to the actual Oktoberfest. It was nice to be able to go to the Paulaner tent then have a liter at Magoun's when I returned as well.
