Agua de Valencia a Herb/Spice beer by German brewery Freigeist Bierkultur in collaboration with German brewery Pirate Brew and Spanish brewery Yria, brewed with rye malt, oranges and juniper (8.4% ABV)

Pours a brown'ish deep, dark amber coloration with a small, fizzy head that soon fades to nothing. Smells of bready malt and juniper, with just a hint of citrus coming through as well.

Taste follows the nose, with with the bready malt and juniper dominating, but with a stronger citrus fruit: orange note coming through, as well as quite a spicy rye presence and lighter herbal accents. Finishes quite dry, with a light bitterness and tartness, as well as some juniper lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and light/medium carbonation.

I never had an Agua de Valencia, so I can't be sure how well they managed to emulate the eponymous Spanish cocktail here, or where the Juniper comes in, for that matter. However, this seems kinda undercarbonated and lacking in a strong orange note for what they were going for. Still, it's a rather interesting concotion that, while heavy on the juniper and rye malt, is still well-balanced with quite a dry and slightly tart character, a light orange juice note and strong spicy/herbal accents.

Amber-rosé colored body; decent white head, starts relatively thick and then fizzes down to a thin, lasting wisp. Pleasant strawberry/rhubarb aroma; a touch of sourness. A most delightful light cereal grain base flavor; wheat-like, with a touch of salt and some mild fruity qualities; strawberry and watermelon; a hint of sourness. Medium body; crisp and juicy; light sweetness.

Gose beers aren't something I'm overly familiar with, but I have had some. This one delivers very nice qualities; complex and balanced. It isn't too anything -- salty, fruity, grainy, sour. It has elements of all the previous things, yet blends them into one fine and approachable beer. Very, very good stuff...
    ---------
I have plenty of great childhood memories, growing up in the 60s. It seems to be all of the standard stuff -- bicycling, dirt clod fights, playing army, backyard tent camping with a flashlight and tons of imagination, swimming, neighborhood baseball games played in our neighbor's front yard. It was also a time of exploration with reading, chemistry sets (trying to recreate gun powder among other things like making soap, turning things blue), microscopes and butterfly nets, catching frogs and caterpillars and fireflies; Boy Scouts.

The list of childhood things could go on and on.

Perhaps the best thing was bonding with other kids in the neighborhood and from school. TV didn't have that big of a draw on us, and the internet and smartphones were (thankfully) non-existent. I still number a couple of childhood acquaintances in my list of "best friends" to this day.

And perhaps the BA web site and forums somewhat harken back to those days. Virtual, and only a few in-person experiences such as the BA Denver pub crawls and hooking up with @lordofthewiens. But still new experiences and explorations with friends and like-minded souls.

Regardless, good times and memories. And with some future luck and opportunity, similar experiences yet to happen and be enjoyed.

L-The beer pours a light orangish yellow. The head is a solid three fingers high and frothy. The head recedes to a large island surrounded by a thin ring. Lacing is some of the best I've seen in a beer. It completely coats the glass.
S- The nose starts out with strong mango. Citrus in the form of orange and light grapefruit make up the balance. intensity of the nose is moderate.
T-On the palate I get a more even mix of orange and mango. The finish is lightly bitter, with a wet finish.
F- Mouthfeel overall is medium. Carbonation is light. The overall drinkability here is excellent and I could drink multiples without issue.
O-A very good NEIPA. Highly drinkable and I can see why it's rated highly. It's perhaps suffering in this review due to following Curiosity 73. I can't help but feel it's slightly overrated. That said I thoroughly recommend trying it for yourself.

We had that guy growing up as well. We'd play stick ball in our side yard. On occasion a well hit ball would end up in the grumpy bastards garden. We were not allowed to retrieve the balls. To add insult to injury he would have a yard sale which would feature said tennis balls and we'd sheepishly buy them back for a quarter apiece.

Childhood- Gone all day on bikes, on foot playing in the woods in the water etc. I have a gear-head brother 12 years older than me that supplied an endless series of go carts, mini-bikes, motorcycles, outboard motors to the household and I played with them, crashed them and ruined some of them. Good times.

I picked up Hazy State from Collective Arts thinking NEIPA, 4.1%, that's for me. Well.....

Thin white head sits on a hazy pale orange body. Dead is gone completely in 5 minute.
Nose is mild orange with a touch of malt.
    Taste is also mild orange.
Not a great beer, but it is only 4.1%. Probably hard to pack much in there with that ABV.

'N Steckje Los, a Session IPA by Dutch brewery Stadsbrouwerij 013 (3.5% ABV).

Pours a hazy, deep golden amber coloration with a large, fluffy, lasting head. Smell is quite subdued, with only faint hints of biscuity malt and citrus fruit.

Tastes of light biscuity malt and somewhat floral, citrus hops: grapefruit, lime peel, with a certain, harsh raw hop aftertaste. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some raw hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light body and medium carbonation.

This isn't great even for a Session IPA, with the hops feeling harsh, raw and chalky, developing only very little pleasant citrus flavor. The light body and mouthfeel is to be expected for the style, but doesn't help matters much.

Greetings felow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Hot and beautiful day here. Wonderful walk in the woods. Hoped to have some pics of a "pop" of honey mushrooms to show (very impressive displays, you should google some pics), but not yet. Heavy rains yesterday likely will pop them in the next four or five days. OTOH was surprised to see a couple of chanterelles while at my honey spots, so walked up the hill to where I usually find chants, and what a surprise to see a new flush of real beauties!

Bourbon, dark caramel, vanilla, blackberry, light roasty notes, dark chocolate, and dates are all here in this wonderful aroma. It's a heavenly scent that begs for a sip to be taken.

Well blended version of the aroma, now the blackberry fragrance is revealed as currant, dark chocolate notes are a key player, with booze a wonderful spicy warmth that allows the flavors to mellow into the palate. End of sip is lightly sweet and fruity but picks up some herbal bitter and roasty notes that keep it just dry enough to please.

Full bodied, very viscous, and coats the palate in clean flavors, low carb., and an epic finish make this baby superb.

Glad to say this has held up marvelously, no hint of oxidation, a blended beauty of a beer. Highly recommended.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Back again for some more reviews. I did my bottle returns and a load of laundry in process right now. My mind went in the ditch again this afternoon for no reason, about half as bad as what happened on Friday. I just loaded up my vape with CBD and am feeling better again. Glad I bought 2 more bottles last week. I am going to need them. I don't want to end up doing something stupid. My mind made me think about overdosing earlier.

Ascension Koji Mochi. Over carbonated but outstadning. Lasting fluffy head retention/thicksoapy lacing. Deep ruby/purple color. Aromas and flavors of big juicy/tart/tangy red raspberries, strawberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, currant, red grape/wine, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate wheat, biscuit dough malts; light peppercorn, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang; and light spiciness/sourness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, medium-full body, and a bit crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy wheat, lactic acid, and fruit tang/tannins in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing acidic/tangy dryness; no pucker/astringency. Refreshingly smooth/soft, not overly lactic, 5.5%. Amazingly juicy/jammy berries with balanced lacto complexity; with a nice bready malt backbone from wheat, koji, and mochi dough. Minimal residual sweetness with lingering acidic/tangy dryness. Loved it! Carbonation probably made it even smoother. 4.18

As it turns out @cavedave and I grew up in adjoining towns out on Long Island, albeit with a 5-10 years difference. That Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway he mentioned was already finished by the time we moved in from Queens, but our development was new, along with a large park right at the end of our street. It was a great time and place to be a kid- damn near everyone in the neighborhood was a young family so there were tons of kids to play with; and there were parts of the park where loads of excavated soil were being dumped from all of the houses under construction. Those fields of hills and small mountains made for a fantastic place to play Star Trek or Planet of the Apes all day long... (which we did :sunglasses:).

Today's new beer came to me by @zid , who figured it to be right up my alley-
    [IMG]
and it is! Lord Rear Admiral, by Three Floyds.

They're calling it an ESB, but somehow it's got an American vibe to me. Not that there's anything wrong with that , but in place of a strong yeast signature they're compensating with strong malt and hop presence, and that's where I tend to draw the line when I'm so inclined.

So there's a brashness here, but it's hardly overdone. The high caramel malt presence never becomes cloying; and the high bitterness remains clean and complementary. Also duking it out for the spotlight are some fairly huge fruity (orange peel, apricot) and spicy/evergreen punches from the hops. Any hefty and rounded element seems to be balanced by an equal vividness in tone. It's got a moderately full feel while finishing nicely dry, with a lingering toastiness. Very nicely done and enjoyable beer that toes the line but never crosses it. Solid A- (4.3), and would definitely add it to my rotation if I could. Thanks again, Chris!

    Time for another brew!

Steady Incline - The Veil Brewing Co.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Beaming amber orange body color, opaque and solid but with a nice glow and appearance. Head is very fine, fluffy, and a good classic three finger size. Khaki light in color with a very creamy top and super fine bubbles that are made up. A few pill bits of lacing hang on. Great looking brew.

Real nice hop aroma. Hints a little exotic, slightly floral but with a sweet perfume like quality and hints of candied up like spices. Nice touch of sweetness seems to be lurking in here as well, kind of a faint brown sugar mixed in for balance. Pretty neat and enjoyable nose.

Palate is quite enjoyable. A real nice body that is creamy rich and full, but without syrupy overtones. Big rich mouthfeel of creamy like vanilla and light brown sugar mixing with a creamsicle orange citrus hop action. The finish is bold and big, but enjoyable. Lots of girth and richness in this brew, with some dank aromatic richness on the finish.

Quite a big but very enjoyable beer, one that doesn't get too out of control, but goes for a big ride.

Good afternoon, folks. Ticked a big new beer want early this AM, ticking a new place this afternoon. We first encountered Carton Brewing at Extreme Beerfest 5-6 years ago, specifically Regular Coffee, which completely floored me at the time (granted it was the end of EBF, and I was almost floored for other reasons). It was the most memorable beer, and we tried Utopias that fest.

Over the years, I’ve of course seen more of their offerings on WBAYDN, including Boat and the 077 series. I’ve never had a chance to try anything from them since then. Perhaps I could ask @augiecarton why we don’t get his beer in NoVa, since he’s standing right next to us, but he looks engaged with industry folk.

Anyhow, much to my chagrin, but not against my expectations, there is no Regular Coffee on tap. They do have Light & Sweet, and that will have to do.
Since I’m sure none of you have seen a nitro pour before (and not at all because I was bored waiting for it to settle)

Looks stark white, like the taproom beerkeep didn’t know how to pour a beer. After a slow clearing period, we have a perfectly golden beer with a pillow of dirty white nitro head atop of it. Sheets of foam in this beer makes me 2-for-2 in that category today.

Nose is that similar to a few “white stouts” I’ve had in the past. A bit of malt plays with a lighter coffee note, with a sweetness included that I’d assume was lactose, though I missed that as part of the description if it is there.

Taste is sweet, but not too much up front. The cream ale base can still be discerned fairly easily, along with the coffee notes. The latter doesn’t squash the former, though it does take over eventually. Sweetness builds.

A soft, moderately light beer, drinking easier than its 6%. This beer did bring back the memories of that Boston beerfest, even if my memory is likely a tad faulty at this point. I truly enjoyed this beer, even in this beer world that has evolved since 2014.

ReuZ IPA/Ermelindis, a Double IPA by Dutch brewery Reuzenbieren (8.5% ABV).

Pours a redd'ish deep, dark amber coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smell is dominated by sweet caramel malt, with hints of citrus hops as well.

Taste follows the nose, being dominated by sweet caramel malt, with lighter notes of quite floral, citrus hops: grapefruit, tangerine and some herbal, almost resinous accents in the aftertaste. Finishes quite sweet, with a medium bitterness and some caramel malt and herbal accents lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is just too sweet and floral for my personal taste, with the citrus/herbal notes and good bitterness in the finish struggling to overcome the almost syrupy malt sweetness. Drinkable, but poorly balanced in my opinion.

Feliz Vendedor is a “Pennsylvania corn light lager with lime and salt.”

A nice looking beer with a slightly hazy pale straw color and thick white head that left soapy foam in the glass. The aroma brought fresh limes and faint grain with some sweet corn. Taste followed. This little beer was packed with flavor: limes, sweet corn, crackery Pilsner, faint floral hops. Light bodied but not watery. An outstanding session beer, well made, that I would gladly pound while my in-laws doze! Thanks Matt!

My childhood was very unsupervised. I remember a few games we played with BB guns, bows & arrows & fireworks that my Mom & Pop would've skinned us aliveif the caught wind. I was a military brat until 12 ( Dad retired & settled down). I do remember my brother & I doing lots of things together until we got acclimated & found our own set of friends when we moved.

The one game that stands out is we had our own Summer Olympics, just brother & I. Since he was 2+ years older & more of an athlete, he of course swept the Golds!

    Afternoon NBSers.
Nice hot Summer day here. Out of the hot and sweaty kitchen so Im really enjoying cutting the grass, taking a dip and drinking this brew.
Well my neighborhood was pretty much the same we had bikes and lots of wooded areas plus freight train tracks at the end of my road. We played lots of wiffleball and "army" in the woods. Another joyous thing was tossing stones in the air at dusk and seeing how low would could get the bats to dive. Then there was of course pennies, nickles and dimes flattened on the train tracks. We also were into making our own movies, which usually were copies of big theatre shows: Jaws, Towering Inferno and Flood. One guy had an 8mm camera and me and another friend did most of the acting and props. I remember Towering Inferno we used a cardboard fridge box which we lit and then used spray cans as bursts of flames. No one ever got hurt although I was quite the troublemaker and spent enough time in emergency rooms to get my baby teeth to turn grey. Poisons, stiches. All my own doing but thats another story.
Todays brew comes courtesy of @WesMantooth from the previous BIF.
Still working on the most generous box Ive ever recieved.
Little Fish hails from Athens Ohio
Petit Poisson - Wine Barrel Aged Sour Ale
Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a snow white head that rises nicely then dissapears leaving very spotty lacing.
Aroma is barnyard funk, hay, grass, thyme, lemon and some white grape notes.
Taste follows with tart funky lemon, bitter hops and a decent amount of wood/oak vanillin. Orange and herbal notes hit mid tongue. Nice underlying vinous notes as well.
Body is medium/light and the beer is quite crisp and dry on the finish.
A wonderful beer for this hot afternoon. Corey once again as he did with almost all his selections hit my sweet spot with this one. Thanks. Delicious brew!
