I've actually always been interested in what a large portion of beer nerds seem to be into metal. Checking out the yearly list of acts at DLD, knowing none of them, and then seeing a bunch of people on here freak out has been an educational experience.

I go to beerfests for beer and concerts for music. If I went to a beerfest and my favorite band was playing I probably would not get out of the beer line to listen to the band because I'm there to snag a beer unavailable elsewhere. By the same token, if I'm at a concert and some random whale I've never had before but completely want pops up in a draft line I'm not going to sacrifice time at the concert for getting beer.

At the risk of sounding like an old man (I promise I'm not usually), I'm equally irritated by both concerts and loud music at beer fests. Concerts because people inevitably make scream over the songs I want to hear, and loud beer fests because I usually want to talk to my friends (not scream at them) while I get drunk.

Not judging anyone else if they enjoy these things, but I definitely like my fests on the chill side (or at least with enough space that I can get away from the noise).

but how many 311 concerts can you possibly attend without knowing which song they'll inevitably play next?

That's why I recommend calling 311 for information first...

Hop Butcher collaboration draft pours now available at both locations and Base cans also available at both locations.

Superstructure also available via Crowler at the Brewpub, as is an excellent pour 2018 Deth's Tar Limited ($11 snifter).

I love metal and beer. And I hate lines. So I don't go to DLD to wait in lines for draft pours. I go to DLD for the music and bottle shares. DLD makes it easy to enjoy both of those simultaneously.

From a comparison standpoint, I think of Rev Oktoberfest as a [newer] entry to Chicago's street fest scene, much less so than a beer fest or a concert really. Street festivals are no less susceptible to the same types of criticisms as beer fests or concerts, but it's worth considering that the commitment and investment asked of the attendees is pretty much zero.

Side note. Ran into my local Binny's (Portage Park) over lunch hoping they had NvU vs Cryo, and saw they had Base and Super Structure on the shelf (one 4-pack pp). I totally missed that they were getting limited distribution. Since they didn't have the NvU yet, I opted for a 4 pack of Base to fulfill my west coast desires. Looking forward to cracking one tonight. Or this afternoon. Working from home does have some nice benefits.

I think that having Base, NvU vs. Cryo and Lost in the Moment from Phase 3 hit all within the same week isn't getting enough attention. All 3 are really good classic IPAs to me. Base may bring up the rear of the 3 IMO, but it's due to a bit of grassy vibe I got from it, which some may dig. It's still a very good beer.

    Okay, let us try:

"A Bottle Logic collab would be dope AF x2"

"I wonder when they'll collab with Phase 3 on a chocolate Deth Tar"

"How cool would a Milkshake IPA collab be with Ben and Jerrys if it was an actual milkshake?"

More Base & Superstructure drops happening at Binny's this week. Apparently if Mullarkey distributes to the Binny's near you, it will hit this week.

I had no idea who "Mullarkey" was until today, but overheard this detail.

So I get the mail today which includes an unexpected box from Revolution's Brewery. The box contained the following swag:

Mason Jar Glass - Revolution Pils
Three magnets (Two Crystal Hero, one Mosiac Hero)
Five League of Heroes pins from the Comic Expo.

I believe my Revolution Brewery Rewards Program, which I have used several times this past month, may be the reason I received this package.

I had a great selection of pours across many styles this month including Deth's Tar Limited (2018), La Gargola, Lotusized, Base, Superstructure, Honey and Strawberry Jacket and others. The quality over many styles is what keeps me coming back, more than any other brewery over the past couple of years.

What kind of people are these that send cool random swag to disrupt the normal mail routine of bills and junk? Why cool people like the awesome team at Revolution Brewing!

Revolution Brewing = Heroes Every Single Day!!!

The avatar dates back to my registration five years ago, representing my first craft beer and the most different beers rated.

Revolution has been my top local option the past two years, and I will flip the avatar once Revolution claims my top spot in terms of beers rated. This may happen within the next 1-2 years.

It's a great time to be a Chicago beer enthusiast!
