all very interesting, thank you all.

seems it is one of those "buzz words" now for beer geeks.

I am fully confident I have an unevolved pallete

I enjoy having an unevolved palate even after all these years of drinking craft beer. To me it means I enjoy most everything I try to some degree or another. It also helped me get past thinking I had to rush out to every release I could.

same. i still enjoy most basic beers as well. I know i am not a fan of Triple IPA's, and some of the super sweet ipas. i enjoy all styles and seeing the difference and evolution of them as well

I suffer from really bad seasonal allergies on top of daily allergies since I was a kid. I feel like my nose is clogged more than an avg person and I wonder what beer would smell/taste like if I didn’t have that. I still get great smell and flavor from almost all beer I try but I wonder what I’m missing out on haha

For me it’s more like I can’t pick out all the nuances and also the same beer one day might taste muted and the next have big flavors.

could be things outside your control resulting in that issue. where/how the beer is stored, can vs draft, and so on. I remember the first time I ever had DDH Forever Simcoe from OH. Loved the pour I had on draft, got my growler filled and left it in my car for a few hours while I helped my friend with something and it was so cold out that the beer got way colder than a fridge would and it never tasted right even after I left it get back to a normal temp. Just tasted off a bit because it got so cold

That definitely happens but I’m even talking about 2 cans from the same 4 pack in my fridge. Also probably has to do with what I have/haven’t eaten.

ahh okay, yeah who knows in that situation. But food you recently ate would definitely have an affect as well. I try to stay away from food with strong flavor profiles or high heat if I am going to try with a beer I have not had before.

I don't know if it was green or just a bad beer but the only Kane beer I've really been very disappointed in and not liked was Triple Reef-it was very harsh. I agree with you that generally they do a great job.

For me there's nothing worse than burning my tongue on food or coffee. It sucks and mutes your ability to taste and usually take a day or two to heal up/go away. I drink a fair amount of coffee and happens more frequently than I'd like to admit.

Add me to the Basic Palate™️ category. Ignorance is bliss.

Edit - just to be clear - not @frozyn level of basic

Bourbon BA ingredients without barrel-aging the beer itself is one of my least favorite trends. It feels like a thinly-veiled attempt to get “barrel aged” into the beer blurb without it actually affecting the flavor of the beer or the brewing process.

I know that’s a joke, but honestly I agree with that sentiment. I know they’re hugely popular these days, but to me the kitchen sink pastry stouts all taste similarly like a hot sweet mess. Who needs all those ingredients? I know, I’m somewhat curmudgeonly.

In large part, I agree, but I actually found the ba coffee in this years Port Omna to be the exception and it really worked out unlike any other ba coffee I've had in or outside of beer. Might be more a stroke of luck that anything though, who knows.

Interesting, I didn’t try that one but that’s good to hear that Kane has made it work in the past. The only iterations of it I remember struck me as gimmicky because they didn’t appear to change anything about the beer.
