Explored two breweries yesterday, Start Line Brewing Co. in Hopkinton Mass. and CraftRoots in Milford.

I've had Criac Irish Red Ale from Start Line before this and really enjoyed it. Tried a 5-oz. pour of their Hazelnut Cold Brewed Coffee Stout--well done. Left with a mixed 4 pack of pint cans, APAs and NEIPAs.

CraftRoots is a very small brewery that only sells 32-oz squealers to go. Eco-friendly as possible. Took home 2x squealers, one with their Blonde Ale (ABA) and one filled with Prost! Bavarian Hefeweizen, now empty.
This was my first brewery-fresh Hefe and it was a knockout.

    I started this thread for two reasons;
The first is to find out some info on CraftRoots, they're small but why so few ratings after four years in business for example.
The second reason is I would like to hear about other hidden and relatively unknown gems in the New England Region.

New to me also, its a 32-oz. brown bottle that sorta looks like a little brown piglet, could be local to the brewery. I'm enjoying a piglet of their Blonde Ale a.t.t.

Is a squealer the same as a growlette? I've also never come across the term. (Growlette).

Sorry, I don't have anything else to add, but I'm interested in the hidden gems.

I'm on the verge of being able to upload pics. Milford can't be that far from you, assuming you are in Mass.

That's it from the link, except CraftRoots has custom etching.
    You have added plenty, thanks.

Start Line is a half mile from me in Hopkinton and its been great to see their growth over the past 2-3 years. Thanks for stopping in. They started out just renting space in a food market/grocery/hydroponic farmer and selling crowlers that were filled as you ordered. They recently took over the whole building, started serving food that is really good, and opened a patio. Its a great spot to have in town.

I have lived here in Hopkinton for 5 years and have never made it to CraftRoots. I dont know why, as I have been to most other breweries in new englang. I think its a combination of not hearing much about them, not seeing their taps around town to try out, and not really having food. I will have to stop in soon.

CraftRoots is a fun little spot. The beer is nice, not extraordinary, but totally acceptable. When I went there, the girl bartending was really fun and my wife and I had a blast.

I had a great experience and enjoyed some excellent fresh brews at Purgatory in Whitinsville, MA. Oddly I really enjoyed their Kolsch but the other offerings were excellent examples of their style. Been there a couple times. Nice old brick mill building too.

Not that they're too much of an unknown gem, but I had to drive through the area earlier this month so they're on my mind (No, I didn't stop unfortunately):

Brick & Feather in Turner's Fall is awesome.

Post and Beam in Peterborough NH. And they saved a priceless GAR Hall to do it (cannons and statue and all)!

One of the owners/brewers was behind the bar the time I went, likely the same girl.

Definitely a nice spot. Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing what they'll have on tap because they've never updated their website, rarely post anything useful on their FB page, and the one time I tried to call, no one answered the phone. It's less than a half hour from my house but I don't often make the trip because it's so chancy. Still, anything I've had there has been better than average and, if it turns out they only have one or two beers, Harlow's Pub is just a couple minutes walk away.

Spyglass in Nashua does some really nice hazy IPAs. A go to for me in the area. Stouts and sours too but I have not had those.

Seven Saws in Holden is a great little spot and extremely underrated.. Cold Harbor in Westborough too.

It’s on my short list of places I have to get to but the prospect of fighting my way eastward on 101 for an hour to get there has deterred me so far.

I had a pour of Parralax at the Smokehaus in Amherst a couple weeks ago and thought it was pretty damn fine. I hope they manage to push their draft accounts a little further west soon.

Not a destination tap room by any means. Especially if you have to go a distance on 101.

Haven’t tried the Parralax yet but grabbed the State Machine with Galaxy and Fuzzy Logic last night. The State Machine is excellent. Nice bitterness level to balance the typical NEIPA sweetness. The Fuzzy Logic was good but but a little muted.

They have expanded twice I believe to keep up with demand. They are always busy and will probably need to move in the not too distant future if they keep trending like that have been.
