Would 2018 WLW, THH, and GTS be a reach or a legit ask?

Are you specifically after quantity? If not, you'd be able to certainly get a nicer bottle of bourbon or rye .

Yea more so quantity I suppose. Looking for 2-3 bottles. 1-2 to keep and 1 to give as a gift

I considered trying to be more choicy with my words, but decided against it. I was actually thinking about older bottles and not just Pappy. Seems like, for example, a 3 year old BTAC of some bottles will certainly fetch more than a current year. Suppose that is to be expected, but with the varying flavor profiles of some bottles (e.g. WLW), I feel like that could make a great deal of difference. Similarly, some bottles in the last few years have difference sources (for what is in the bottle) than current.

Legit. Side Project beers are worth their weight in gold. I've had pours of WLW and THH, and I'd rather have the D11 but I'm more focused on beer than whiskey haha. WLW is one of the more unique pours i've had though

For what it's worth, when KBBS was king, second only to SR-71, people had a hard time trading KBBS for WLW. It's only gotten worse.

I don't know the exact value of D11, but with the whiskey tax I think it seems potentially tough to trade for that much whiskey. Just seems like a ton for someone to give up, especially at $300-400 in retail costs of the whiskey.

When it comes to whiskey, the value of beer seems to be about 50% of what it actually is when trading beer for beer.

From what I'm seeing, this would be a huge reach. You could get THH + GTS no question. Maaaybe WLW plus one of the others, but I think you'd need a good plus on your side. No way you get all three.

Totally agree with this. depending on year, and accounting for "bourbon tax" D11 may be 1:1 with WLW.

I did just take a look on stl FB trading and someone did offer D11 + W12 750 and asked for one of the following and did not close - he last bumped three weeks ago

    ER17 +
    Saz18 +
WLW+GTS or THH or something similar
    4RAY+

The ER17+ and the Saz18+ are big asks, but the WLW + GTS/THH would be close.

This trade did close - did not specify what for, posted on July 15th.

    FT: D11
    ISO: any 2 below

    GTS '17
    GTS' 18
GTS '16 (I'll will add on my end)
    ORVW
    Lot B
    THH

I didn't realize there was such a difference between the values of different whiskey years

First and foremost (and you may know this already): ER and Saz are always the hardest to get, so they command the highest price even if not ranked the highest by readers (or critics).

Second: year to year variation gives rise to different flavor profiles, and different proofs, which will garner more fans depending. For example, 2017 WLW (or maybe it was 16) was supposed to be a caramel bomb. That’s great for some, others dislike that.

Third: there are unnatural year to year variations. What I mean is that some of the whiskey placed in older bottles may actually be older whiskey made from year before. If this makes no sense, let me give an example. 2016 was the last release of the “old” PVWFRRye, and was older than the 13 years marked on the bottles. I don’t recall the nitty gritty details, but this is an old original fill. When it returned in 2018, it was from a different fill, different distillate. (That is probably slightly wrong, but as an example further, from the old Stiltzer-Weller distiller days vs. whomever is filling barrels now.)

Fourth: Year to year yield levels vary.

Fifth: the older, the higher the value, on average. Fewer around.

I'd say it's pretty close, maybe a small plus on the blue ridge side like fob5 level or other nice shelfie

Think you might have this backwards based on what I’ve seen. All signs point towards Blue Ridge trading a little above MD (ie .5 VRU vs. .75 VRU).

So, @jamshard2mash would be correct. MDb6 seems to be trading slightly below .5 vru and mdb5 slightly above.

    Blue Ridge + fob4(or ncb2) for MDb6 + mdb5

    .75 + .25 = .5 + .5

My mistake, I read the initial post as MD5 or MD6 as opposed to both. We’re all on the same page value-wise, thanks for clarifying.

Can I do trade Xbalanque (or Xquic) with FOb5? Or which side needs plus?

I think that's a fair trade on both sides. Both hold about the same value (in my opinion).

I thought Blue Ridge was trading at 1VR unit? Did it drop over the last few months?

I thought the same. For what it's worth, it's the best barleywine I've ever had.
