    Good morning NBS
Thanks for the opening remarks @lordofthewiens and congratulations to your grandson. My family had a weekend of travel & family milestones starting with my son's high school soccer team playing a game 2 hours away in Louisville, KY, then driving another 2 hours to Bloomington, IN for my wife's cousin's wedding reception (after getting a hotel room just for my son to shower) then 2 hours home. Why drive home after all that? Both kids are volunteering at the Webb.com golf tournament locally today and my son had to be there at 8am. Tired dad starts nightshifts tonight so having this one before a nap...

12oz bottled 08.07.19 (25 days ago) poured into a teku glass at fridge temp 11.9% ABV. The beer pours dense dark brown with chocolate tan colored head. The head slowly recedes to a fat ring and leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is coffee forward with vanilla and oak drifting out beneath. The taste follows the nose with bold dark roast coffee first followed by oak, vanilla and bourbon. The finish is moderately bitter and mostly dry with an earthy, oaky flavor. The mouthfeel is creamy with medium to full body and average carbonation. Overall, excellent. Founder's has applied the barrel in a very nuanced way here and it's delicious. Recommended.

I feel lucky to have purchased this 4 pack as it wasn't on display Thursday when I made my weekly beer run. I inquired and found that it was being held for a special release, but I could buy a 4 pack based my prior purchasing habits. Cheers all. One and done today. Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend!

    Beer: Pirate Weekend
    Brewery: Prairie Artisan Ales
ABV: unannounced (wonder if it’s due to some Oklahoma beer law, as the others of the series were close to 15% but not quite?)
From a 12 oz. bottle into a PAA Pirate whiskey glass, this beer starts off with quick streams of dark brown before it turns to a slick blackness that lets nothing through. A pinky worth of caramel colored bubbles disappear as quickly as they can form, leaving you to stare at the blackness that sits below.

The nose carries in a hugely thick, sticky marshmallow right off the bat with accent notes of slightly charred, silky chocolate and toasted coconut shavings. Underlying toasted graham cracker notes float around as well as a faint, lingering botanical rum.

With the first sip, I think to myself “a rum soaked marshmallow covered in chocolate”. The well balanced, botanical and fruity rum are the opening show for that huge, sticky marshmallow. That slightly charred, silky chocolate makes sure it’s not over shined at any point though, and stays a constant presence throughout. I still get that underlying, consistent graham cracker note that I picked up in the nose.

This is huge with sticky sweetness, the kind that coats your mouth and sticks to your teeth. Probably only medium bodied, but as with all prairie stouts, that sticky sweetness just makes it feel bigger. Slight, warming booze detectable throughout, but no burn. Leaving me wondering even more on the ABV, because if it’s like the others of the series and pushing 15%, it’s mighty impressive.

Overall, this is one of my favorite stouts I’ve had in a long time and definitely a top competitor (only next to Pirate Noir) for the best rum barrel aged stout I’ve ever had. That marshmallow is just huge and mixes greatly with the chocolate, graham cracker notes, rum and thick, sticky sweetness. It’s all so well integrated. I wish I had 100 of these.

Cheers NBS & I can’t wait to see what you bring to the share!

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass canned on 8/23/19. Pours a very attractive hazy dark yellow with a solid finger of sticky white head that leaves thin streaks of lace behind with excellent retention. 4.5

Smell is guava, honeydew, pineapple, tangerine, and a little apricot very balanced and next to no bitterness. 4.25

Taste follows guava, pineapple, tangerine, upfront with some melon and apricot in the finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is a solid medium, very soft on the palate, sticky but not dry, and at 6.2% easy drinking but packed with flavor. 4.5

Overall I love this very young 15 month old brewery, killing NEIPAs, Stouts, and Milkshake IPAs. Really another excellent brew. 4.5

Good morning all. I was up fairly early watching my sons hockey game online and despite being out late watching a friend run a mechanical bull at a bar for primarily a drunk lady clientele (which was every bit the shitshow you are likely imagining) I decided to stay up and just begin drinking earlier. Maybe a nap will occur organically, who knows. Until then I have some new beers to work through, starting with this Brasserie Thiriez Extra

Massive foamy white head leaves an artsy looking lacing as it chills out a bit. Body itself is like a hazy yellow orange. Brilliant noble hop aroma gives way to a layer of white grape and a sweet, biscuity-ness. Taste is pretty much the inverse of the aroma as the parade of tastes begins with a sweet breadiness before clove. Not as much grapes but leaning towards melon, maybe pear before a hop bitter wave of what must be the product of the dry hopping. Finishes on the crisp, dry side.

I have this beer in the fridge, though I am not sure I will get to it today. I am sorta hoping I see it differently than this and can argue with you about it

Conversely hope I agree with with you on this one that is also in the fridge, right next to the other.

[IMG] So I messaged Founders on FB about a year ago and telling them that my dream was this and dream came true. I never thought would be this crazy good and 11.9% ABV smooth as hell. @lordofthewiens I can’t wait to see this in your Breaking Bad Coffee cup.

Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass bottled on 8/8/19. Pours a beautiful mahogany with a 3 plus finger sticky cream colored head, that leaves webs of lace all over the place with solid retention and drank at about 48 degrees. 4.5

Smell is is coffee, hazelnut, vanilla beans, brown sugar, cocoa, and Oaked bourbon outstanding. 4.75

Taste follows coffee, hazelnut, brown sugar, vanilla, cocoa, and oaky bourbon. 4.75

Mouthfeel is Yogi bigger than your average BEER, creamy with just the right amount of life, not very dry, and at 11.9% ABV extremely approachable. 5

Overall this lived up to my extremely high expectation. With Fall around the corner, this will be in my glass often. Wow 4.5

Got a new beer and some #pgw to go with it today.

    It’s Roadmap from Bearded Iris

Appearance is classic murkbomb, very bright and golden yellow. Opaque with a finger and a half of stark white foam on top. Got some dank cheese/earthy/dirty sock notes off the bat on the nose. Underneath that is some overripe fruit notes which I love, but the first whiff deducts some points. Taste is mostly the same, except the overripe fruits sit up front and the cheese/earth/dirty socks take a back seat and are definitely lighter than on the nose. The cheese/earth/dirty socks taste much better than they smell. Have I thoroughly confused everybody yet? Mouthfeel is medium bodied, possibly a hint lighter, and prickly. Good carbonation. Overall another hit by these guys, just not my favorite from them.

Happy New Bi-curious Sunday. Meeting with some friends at this fairly local winery/brewery hybrid that we are all visiting for the first time, Quattro Goomba. Our friends are going to try and buy some wine, so a quick review can be made.

First off, as we searched for a table, I noticed a buzzing sound from above us where a “40” Mylar balloon was stuck in overhead wires. Well, as we passed underneath, Pop! BOOM! - the transformer across the farmhouse field blew. No electricity, and the GF told me, “Hope your aim is true as the bathrooms have no lights.”

Anyhow, they have limited means of selling beers, and I started with IPAs, one a more traditional (West Coast) IPA, and the other a NE IPA. Might not surprise you the GF gets the juicy one.

Big Willy Haze is quite juicy, mainly tangerine and grapefruit with a hint of mango. Made with 40% wheat and oat, it doesn’t suffer horribly from the feel I don’t care for in heavily oated beers. Then again, I only had a few sips.

CA Dreamin’ is a Citra and Amarillo beer with Pilsner and Crystal malts. A medium amber beer that is pretty clear, though not completely. The beer was filled to the top, but there is a surface lined with bubbles as I drink it down.

Nothing huge in the nose, light toasted malt and grapefruit. Taste starts like the nose, with a bit more of the pulp than pith. The beer morphs to the bitter, as we appear to move towards the ring of the grapefruit.

Initial sips I was thinking this had a pretty strong level of bitterness. By mid-cup, though, I had adjusted and it became more balanced of a beer. In the end, a decent old school IPA, especially compared to the newer style of its partner this sitting.

    Hey what's going on!?

Hoorray awesome weekend. Getting much done, had a fantastic bike ride yesterday, and this morning managed to clean up the yard, perhaps call it the end of tomato season... sigh... time moves on...

But the best thing is the hop vine is READY for picking tomorrow, and that means only one thing!!!

    TOMORROW IS BREW DAY!!!

and of course the new Tool album is out and it's flipping awesome... DUH...

With that there are some goodies so let's partake. Like the tribute to the AVAM museum in Baltimore for this beer, which is awesome. If you are in Baltimore go to it, it is really cool.

What's new for our hero today?

Poured from the can into a Speigelau IPA glass, or is that a Libbey Pilsener? Ack I am torn, but alas it is IPL so the Spiegelau gets the go.

Woah this is a looker pushing all the right buttons for me. Clear bodied with an excellent amber bronze color, looks like a classic West Coast IPA, with some fast middle linear rising carbonation. Absolutely frothy forming big but in control head out of the can. Bleach white, with a thick mix of fine and swiss cheese like retention.

Real vibrant and wonderful nose. Floral light touches with a faint dank and more so candy gum drop sweetness that permeates. Mouthwatering aroma comes off this that makes me drool. Clean but a bit thick aromatics and real punchy. I am digging this a lot can't wait to taste it.

Palate really takes off. Juicy fruity ipa flavor and like body. Rich supportive malt base has a hint of caramel, to balance out the wonderful hop dominant flavors. A gum drop candy sweetness and mild almost pils malt? herbal hop bitterness play with each other making this incredible mint candy like flavor. Chewy body as well, hints barely a hair light mouthfeel.

I can barely tell this is a lager, only some possible pils malt and maybe some herbal traditional hop gives it away, but there is more to this that brings this beer into stellar IPA like territory. This is by far the best beer I've had from Union that also includes the stellar collab Yonder Cities with DC Brau. But this one is all their own. Stellar beer, they need to make more of this but alas who knows if they ever will.

    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5 | BA Generated 4.48

    Cheers

I’m really not a Berliner Weisse fan but this one looked interesting. Speaking of interesting, the pour produced probably the most indifferent activity I’ve ever seen in a beer as the moment of carbonation seemed like an honest to goodness chore for it. Unsurprisingly, zero head. Body color is a strange cross between watermelon and White Zinfandel, while being pretty murky. Nose does have some raspberries but it also has an odd beef broth thing lingering in there as well. Taste indeed starts out tart but it’s very pleasant and incredibly quenching with the raspberry flavor that also has a little apple happening. Thankfully “beef broth” is not present in the taste. Finishes light and a little wet with virtually no aftertaste. For not liking the style, I’m actually enjoying it for the most part.

Peroni, not only a new beer but the 1st one ever that is brewed in Italy. Peroni is an European Pale Lager. The beer was on tap and is 4.7% ABV. It was served in a tall pint glass. It's a bright gold color with a thin but lasting white head. The aroma is mild mostly malt but some grass. The taste is malt and a bit sweet. There is also a hint of bitterness that shows up in the finish. The mouthfeel is light. Overall a pretty nice beer on a warm afternoon. Worth trying if you see it.

First off mazel tov @lordofthewiens Family milestones can be joyous & stress filled occasions to be sure.

First of maybe two new beers today, Freewill Brewing's Techno IPA, 7.3% ABV, 3.73 overall

Pours a hazed honey with a thumb+ of cream colored head. Clears a touch, must've been chill hazed; Stellar lacing & average head retention

    S: Doughy, light citrus notes

T: Bready, a little pomelo & grassy hops up front. Dryness and sweet breadyness mix with grassy, woody & citrussy ( tangerine ) hops as this warms. Finishes dry, grassy & citrussy with a little woody bitterness

MF: Medium, body firm carbonation, pretty good balance, Became really creamy as it warmed

Solid IPA, could've been much fresher; over 3 months old. Would certainly like to try this fresher & wished I spotted the canned on date sooner
