    Innis and Gunn Gunpowder Barrel Aged IPA

    This was a random grab, on clearance at $5 per 4pk. Actually a really fantastic beer, with some surprising nuance and insane drinkability. A traditional style IPA hopped with Citra and Cascade, and then barrel aged. The beer is certainly a traditional IPA in nature, but it has some interesting modern-esque tropical notes, and the barrel seems to have really rounded this out. Gotta love a random grab that turns out to be a home run.

    I don't find anything here that makes it stand out from the herd of other Euro Lagers, even though it's been called American style by the Brewer it's European roots are showing, but it's good enough for what is.

    I did a thorough review over on New Beer Sunday, but the shorter version is: I enjoy them both, but the Sierra Nevada / Bitburger take is less sweet, slightly cleaner, and definitely easier to drink more than one. I don't think I'd go for a second of the Sam Adams take unless it were on tap with limited options. I could easily break into a second of the SN.

    hazy amber liquid , some carbonation, one finger foamy white foam cap quickly recedes top a white foam ring, some lacings

    aroma is bright citrus, grapefruit

    taste is grapefruit hops, simcoe

    dry finish, slight hop bite

    good beer
