..that I must report that we have lost one of our own, that curmudgeon of the German forum, Stahlsturm.

Hart Van Laaber passed today, after being in a 2-year coma which came about during surgery to repair a lung issue...

His wife, Cherly Van Laaber, posted this today on Facebook: "Rest in peace Hartmuth "Blackgoat" Schindler. 16 July 1967 - 05 September 2019"

It was always great to get insight from a German on a (generally) US based website, he was a very entertaining and insightful contributor to BA and our forums. Rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of meeting Hart (and Cheryl) once, back in their home area in Germany.
    It was a wonderful evening.

I propose we raise a toast to him, perhaps tomorrow - 07SEP19 at 2PM EDT/8PM Germany time... or any time you'd like really....

Tomorrow is my Saturday to work, so I won't be around at the designated hour, other than in spirit. I'll catch up with a good Märzen (Hart's favorite style) when I get home.

What do you think, Spaten, Paulaner, or Hacker-Pschorr? Since he was no big fan of the "big city" of Munich, maybe I should get a six of Moosehead, his favorite N. American lager.

FWIW -- Stahl hated Weizen, it anyone is thinking of that choice.

You remember Stahlsturm from the RealBeer era, don't you?

@Bierman9, thanks to you I looked at some Facebook posts about Stahlsturm. Now I get his BA name, it was perfect for him.:heavymetal:

Condolences to those who knew him. Thank you @Bierman9 for this idea. I'm going to have one now and another a little later. For now, Mt. Nittany Pale Ale because if I remember correctly Stahlsturm was a proponent of drinking local. It didn't make much sense to him to covet a beer that was made 4800 km away. Otto's Brewpub is as local as I can do out here in the PA Wilds.

Later I will have an Augustiner Edelstoff. Although it's a "detestable" Munich Beer, it is at the very least an independent, family owned, Echt Bayerisch beer. And who was more echt Bayerisch on this forum than Stahlsturm? Here's to him.

And I just drank a Märzen. :beers: Stahlsturm.

I wish I could still find Regensburg beers in my area, but my sources have dried up. However, I remembered that even though Stahl didn't like the Munich breweries, he respected HB for staying independent -- so I'm having an HB Festbier as my honoring toast to the lost comrade.

It's not in a proper Maß, old friend, but it's all for you.

    Prosit!

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and gestures.... I'm not sure what awaits us all after this life, but somehow I'm sure Hart is feeling the positive vibes.... perhaps when we consider drinking a Munich brewed bier or a Märzen, or whatever, good memories of Hart will come to mind.... life can be damn short, and throw us all kinds of curves.... enjoy every day and your loved ones like there's no tomorrow.... all the best, my friends....
