I don't mean to call you out SaisonFest, and you have every right to buy as many of something as you want, but i feel this is the bigger problem with limited beers. I'm going to San Fran in hopes of picking up an Enjoy by IPA. Even if i found a place fully stocked with it, i would still buy no more then 2. I want this beer BAD, and i know there are ppl out there that want it just as bad. Ppl need to stop hoarding, start thinking of others and stop being so greedy.

I don't mind hoarders. I can't afford to hoard any single release myself, but hoarders are often the ones that trade with me for stuff I have no access to. People that actually drink what they hoard, now that's just pure evil!!

Really? I've driven around cities looking for beer before and wound up at stores I've never been to. And, no I wasn't looking for rare issue beers, just different varieties of beer. Not every store has the same selection.

And my point wasn't regarding that specific situation, but just the fact of an owner taking that attitude. That's why I wrote "If I wasn't a regular before an incident like that..."

well that's kind of my point: there's really no way to be precise - or fair. and as a result someone is bound to feel slighted. maybe a mon-fri beer manager gets a few bottles of something limited and saves them for the people he sees during the week. maybe a customer who spends a boatload on weekends gets the shaft; maybe a guy who drops in once a week gets the shaft in favor of someone who hit the store up twice a week. maybe those customers are miffed and decide to take their business elsewhere. who knows. point being, it's not just about never-before-seen-truck-chaser vs long-time-regular. if i were a beer mgr i would probably just shelve everything with a bottle limit, announce it via facebook or twitter as mentioned above. regulars thus might have access to inside info but no guarantees.

Sammyjaxxxx, when you say InBev, do you mean Bevmo? If so, i ask, why would you not? I've never had a bevmo manager pass judgement on me, play god, and decide whether i'm worthy to buy a certain beer. At bevmo, it goes on the shelf and it's up to the customer to be there and grab it before it's gone. A no BS first come first serve process IMO.

What if 100 other customers spend up to $300 a month in the same store? You might not be as special as you think. I say first come, first served, just like everything else on the entire fucking planet.

My local shop sinply keeps beers like this in the back, and takes reservation for the beer from regulars, but after that the beer is free game if u ask for it. I think this works the best, as u get the beer if you are a regular and stay up to date in what is coming out when, but still allows everyone a chance at the beer

Would it not have been better for the manager not recognizing the customer as a regular, to tell him he did not have any?

How do we know the guy was a hoarder/truck tracer? Perhaps the unlucky bastard simply went looking for some at 15 shops prior and struck out completely? If so, I think he deserves himself a bottle personally.

And, yeah, I agree with everyone who has already stated the biggest issue was how the owner dealt with the guy. He should have just told the guy there was no more available.

And here's another issue, the one of honesty. I've read several BAs post that they just wanna be told the truth, no matter how harsh, as though they were competent, reasonable adults. This would supposedly command respect. At the same time, I hear many lambasting this particular clerk for being completely honest, preferring him instead to just technically lie and say he didn't have any of the beer in question (despite the fact that he did). This was my problem, too, back in the day, as honesty came upon anger with the policy, etc, and the lying came upon anger from those who were lied to and subsequently missed out (not to mention any individual ethical issues with constant lying).

Adam, you're a lot more succinct than I seem to be able to be: You're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't. My response has been constant throughout: "Well, fuck!"

As I stated earlier, the guy in question in this thread was me. If the owner had said he had some but was saving it for the regular guys that would have been fine. I wouldn't have thrown a fit, I probably still would have shopped there since he had a lot of stuff. He did sell it to me and I'm grateful, he earned a new regular customer since I only live a few miles away.

well there's 3 of us now who have seen it. Seriously, folks, on page 3 the "hoarder" showed up. He's a BA by the name of markcgo.

Seems the story is a little different than the OP thought; guy lives 7 miles away, ie just around the corner when you live in a cornfield (I have) bought $60 bucks worth of other good beer, and Terry found a way to sell him the BCBS, got himself a new regular.

If you honestly think most things operate on a first come first served basis you might benefit from doing some more research...
Usually it's who you know, followed by how much money you have... Then there is first come first served way down the ladder. Otherwise, wouldn't everyone who showed up to the dance club early be the first to enter? How about reservations at a restaurant? Since I placed it weeks before shouldn't I get seated quicker? See my point. Even with beer, if I know someone would really appreciate a certain beer, I don't care if someone has the money to buy it now. I will hold that beer for the person whom I know. Stores should play favorites. Locals rule.

    That is all...
