Totally agreed. I really hope there will come a day where at least one beer from each brewery will be able to truly and entirely express the terroir of their home turf. Quite literally. Cheers!

It's a bummer you feel that way. You must not frequent the breweries I have gone too. Seems you may be alienating yourself by putting people into categories, such as rich, old, white, elitist and snobbish, when everyone is there for the same reason - good beer. Breweries are a place where - no matter your income, race, gender, sports team, etc - you can go and strike up conversations with almost anyone because you have something in common- the appreciation and enjoyment of good beer. I've had some truly engaging discussions with "rich white people" in many different settings. They don't bite. In fact, I enjoy hearing about their businesses... and their yachts. It can be quite interesting. Breweries bring people together, they do not alienate.

All yeast stains create diacetyl during the early stages of primary fermentation and reportedly the Ringwood strain creates more diacetyl but if you give the yeast sufficient time in the primary they will 'clean up' the diacetyl they created. The 'issue' with the Pugsley fermentation 'system' is that breweries who brew using this 'system' are encouraged to quickly package the beers after final gravity is achieved; this means insufficient time to permit the Ringwood yeast to complete the 'clean up' process.

Beers can indeed be produced with non-perceptible levels of diacetyl using Ringwood yeast; you just have to give the beer sufficient time in the tank.

    Cheers!

I am annoyed that tribalism and exclusivity have seeped into what used to be a very inclusive group of people.

-Sjw media and it’s followers that say the craft community has a racism and sexism problem. Individuals do sure, but don’t blanket label the community as something it’s not.

-BRUT IPA and SNEIPA. Worst styles ever created. I drink every other style from Sahti to rauchbier to gueuze but damn Brut and sneipa are awful.

-inflated beer prices due to exclusivity. It’s abit greedy.

-breweries not putting a brew date on the can/bottle

Nah... that tribalism was always there, it's just evolved. People always liked being into something different from the masses, which gave them a that feeling of exclusivity and tribalism with the few others who were "in-the-know" with you. 10+ years ago the "community" was so small that welcoming, proselytizing and converting others to craft beer did not jeopardize the exclusiveness. The masses have discovered craft beer, but people's desire to be part of an exclusive group never changed, so new divisions and tribes appear within the expanded community. This is not unique to craft beer either.

Ok but it's still like 90% white dudes. But somehow even mentioning that very obvious fact, much less actually asking serious questions about why that is, paints one as The Real Racist in the room.

We must be in the same group!:grin:

I agree it's some of the dumbest shit I've ever witnessed, but that's why I don't do it. If they enjoy it, carry on. It does get rather annoying though, getting 10 FB notifications every Friday night when people are posting their "chug train videos" as they call them.

I suppose the thing that annoys me about beer culture, besides the pervasive racism, sexism, and heteronormativity, is how much of it is a big dumb pointless prick-waving dick-fight over who's drinking the right beer.

All the crap that comes up between neipa and wcipa fans. It's worse than dems vs pubs.

But the beer with no printed date whatsoever sits there indefinitely. It is the only thing that gets me upset about the beer industry today.

It seems like the times I've gone to breweries/tap rooms all I see are f-ing kids and dogs. I like both, and I know the trend is to be more family/pet friendly, but it's not my thing.

Being relatively new to the scene, and have not been to a lot of breweries/tap room, I was not aware of this issue. Another reason I still prefer the old neighborhood bars. All races, sexes, etc there mainly for one reason, to get drunk. I do almost all my drinking at the bar in my house, everyone is welcome there. Well except for Grateful Dead fans, no f-ing hippies (jk, kind of)
