Share Your BA Meetup Stories

I've met a lot of people who post on BA over the years, sometimes knowing them IRL first and later finding out their BA alias, and sometimes knowing them on BA first. Pretty much all of them have been cool and fun to talk to.

Sadly, many of the people I liked best have been banned here or quit posting after friends were banned. But I still lurk and post occasionally...

 

Had to get back in here and post up a reply on this old thread as promised before I get busy with life and completely forget!

If any BAs ever make it up to Banff for a vacay, definitely reach out to @MattilaRage ! He's not lying about his shop and sent us back home to the states packing a cooler full of great Canadian stuff including some Bellwods which I'm told is quite a find that far out west. Had a great time hangin and drankin with you guys and will never forget our time in Banff. Thanks again for making us feel right at home in your amazing little town and arranging the private little looksie around the stellar brewpub you guys have there. If you're ever unfortunate enough to find yourselves in southeast Wisconsin, you know where to turn for help. Cheers!

 

I met up with @dbrauneis , @metter98 , and @smithj4 in early August when they were in the area. We visited a couple of Sioux Falls taprooms and had a couple of beers. They've had a lot of beercations, beerventures, and even beermisadventures over the years. It was great to meet them and I really enjoyed hearing about their travels. I sure realized how much I'm missing by not living on the East coast where the craft culture is older and more prevalent.

Hey it was my pleasure Sir. Glad you had a great time up here in the great white north. We will have to try to make it out there if I ever get back east for a visit home.

And for sure if anyone else is headed up this way, get at me. Id love to share a pint and show you around, or at least show any of my fellow BA's around the shop.

 

@SmittyinUpstate, his Mrs, and I met up for a few pints at Bearded Iris in Nashville on Saturday. He was drinking the NEIPAs and I went with the Pale (Again and Again) and pils. Talked about football, homebrewing, the numerous babies and dogs in the taproom, and the cool decor.

 

I didn’t even know this thread existed, pretty cool. I’ve only met a handful of local BAs, usually just to exchange beers and bullshit for a bit but @TongoRad @ScottKramer @SudsDoctor @jrnyc are all standup dudes. I wish, hope, that maybe another time we can actually have a beer while we BS. I’ve never actually met @Prager62 but he might have sent me the nicest gesture, frankly, anyone has ever sent me after the sudden passing of my first dog.

The one BA I’ve had the fortune of having a beer with is @zid. Jesus, what an asshole.

OMFG, this would be too many for me to enumerate!

I used to come up to BOS for the BA fests at The Cyclorama all the time & after a while, I was extremely well-known (infamous).

Russ Phillips, author of the coffee table book "Craft CANs" has been quoted as saying of me, "I first encountered @woodychandler in BOS, wearing his monk's robes & being trailed by more people than some of the celebrity brewers! I thought to myself, 'This guy is either really awesome or really crazy!' The jury is still out."

The best was the post-fest Sunday brunch when we simply took over BOS area establishments as I handed out beers that I had muled up in my travels. One wag noted that I had my share of groupies. No comment.

In late-Spring/early-Summer 2006, I was given permission to begin a thread entitled "Woody Him Forward (WHF) 001" in which I traveled extensively, especially through the Midwest, reporting back on my misadventures. I would solicit for a place to crash with fellow BAs for a day or two & move on. There was some hosteling & some motels involved, but much of the time, it was local BAs wanting to show off (to me) their city's beer places.

It proved to be so popular that I CANtinued the madness during the Thanksgiving & Holiday breaks from school & then resumed again the following Summer.

From June 2006 to August 2008, I was in all 50 states & most of the CANadian provinces drinking beer, meeting BAs, writing about it & having a blast!

Lately, I am more CANfined to SE/SCentral PA, especially my hometown of Lancaster, but if you are nearby or in PHL over a weekend, ChANces are I would be happy to meet.

It is precisely this spirit of CANraderie that has kept me on this site for so long. Prosit!
