I nominated Fremont, no surprise, although there certainly are other worthy contenders.

If you read the comments under the article, you might get a little disheartened. Let's just say the average reader of that article doesn't quite have the same tastes in beer as most of us who hang out in this forum.

I cant imagine anything other than Fremont winning. Lots of good breweries in the city, but Fremont is the total package IMO

Didn’t see anything there about how the bracket winners are decided, but I’m guessing it’s whoever gets the most votes in a matchup between two contenders. Rather than beer quality, winners will be the most aggressive ballot stuffers (asking people to vote for them via social media, etc.).

Yeah, this is just the nomination stage. I'm guessing that that the breweries with the most nominations will be seeded, and then brackets made. Although, they may juggle things around a bit to include as many neighborhoods as possible. Shrug.

It's kinda like judging "best beer" by sales volume and selecting Coors Lite as the winner. These contests are fun for some people I guess -shrug-. Of the quality breweries Georgetown and Fremont have the biggest exposure so they're sure to do well.

this is a silly exercise. the numbers could speak for themselves, but even disregarding them, everyone knows georgetown has been the most consistent purveyor of beer in seattle for a long time. they were draft only, manny's and lucille practically legendary at this point, and they have nearly every account that matters in Seattle. they started packaging less then 2 years ago, plus bodhi now exists. georgetown is seattle's favorite brewery by a long shot.

In terms of number of accounts, sure. But in terms of Seattle's favorite? I've never actually met anyone who likes Manny's, despite it's popularity.

Untappd rates Manny's at 3.61 with 40,000 ratings. African Amber is pulling a 3.71 with 37,000 ratings. Fremont's most popular beer is Interurban which is pulling a 3.7 with 35,000 ratings.

I thought maybe BA would be different since it's more beer enthusiasts and less general population. Manny's is a 86 (3.85), Interurban is also 86 (3.84), but African Amber takes the crown with 87 (3.89).

Given the Seattle Times audience and the votes being from the greater Seattle area, I think Mac & Jacks has a chance at winning the popular vote.

I like Mannys quite well, it's often my choice when a bar has a limited selection.

I'm indifferent about Mannys. I've never understood its popularity. But that's just me.

Well we will surely get a definitive answer about a subjective matter. From the Seattle Times. Which as a Seattleite, I don’t know of anyone who actually reads it.

Regarding the “numbers” part... not untappd, not BA, not ratings, but barrels of beer sold. Georgetown is doing really fucking good! They are top 50 now nationwide, right? But majority of their accounts are Seattle metro area.

In a shocking display of contrarian-ness, I voted for Obec.

(hey, somebody had to throw 'em a bone. Plus, i've never heard of 'em. Who has tried them?)

I've heard of them. I see the sign every time I walk to Reuben's.

Never tried them, or Lucky Envelope, or Populux... and only been to Stoup once (after Reuben's). The problem is, I really like Reuben's and it's a bit of a drive for me so if I make the trip I'm not likely to visit any of the other breweries in the area.

Not sure I've seen Obec anywhere else though. Can't remember seeing them on tap anywhere, or at any of the festivals.

Same as me, especially regarding how much I like Reuben’s. Top Three in the state for me. I went into Obec once a few years ago and had their pils, which was solid. Kinda neat, relaxed, comfy vibe in Obec, but I just like Reuben’s too much.
