Von Trapp’s Oktoberfest is that weekend, too.

Ha, don't think I'll make it up for that one.

I bet it will be fun though.

Just tried the ‘Gansett Ofest. Delicious. Great representation of the Marzen style. Really clean & not caramel-ly.

Got around to picking up a 6pack of Copper Legend by Jack Abby...... really let down.
Love the can design of zero gravity oktoberfest, beer was solid but not great.

I don't really disagree with this. It's enjoyable just not what I wanted. It's more like a SN hoppy lager, which, since it's SN, is pretty good. I look forward to celebration season.

My man. Just bought my second six pack. I like it more than copper legend. Prob my fave of the season so far, but I havent had any imports.

The Hofbrau is fucking awesome this year.

Von Trapp’s was pretty solid as well.

I just don’t want the sweet caramel forward octoberfest beers. Something cleaner and make me feel like I had to cross the pond. Definitely lean on the German side. Had a few Sam Adams for the pats game in the seaport and not mad, better then copper legend. I need to find a von trapp. Trying to make it next Saturday for trillium octoberfest I have high hopes

Looks like Ayinger's Marzen is on top at Armsby.

It’s been on tap at Magoun’s as well for two weeks.

Had some last weekend. Wasn’t bad, but preferred the Hacker-Pschorr on draft for the amber style.

Always the beergeeks’ fave, but I probably like 5 festbiers more.

Maybe I haven’t had the SA version in a long time, but you sure described your tastes as being aligned with Copper Legend then said you preferred the SA Oktoberfest over CL.

It’s always been Sam that’s been a caramel, sweet mess of a beer where CL is light and more in the classic tradition. Again, I haven’t had SA in a while. They re-did Summer. Maybe they re-invented Oktoberfest too.

Curious, too, about what makes you hopeful for Trillium’s take on the style? What have they done to inspire this hope? When I think classic styles, I don’t think Trillium.

Agree on the classic styles for them, but the Patersbier is a fantastic take.

Von Trapp is the best US Ocktoberfest I've had so far.

Used to be a favorite but for the last few years it hasn't been nearly as good.

This year's was better, but still not up to snuff.

I've only had one can of each, but it's Von Trapp's and Zero Gravity's as my top two US versions so far (the amber style, not that I've seen a pale US Oktoberfest yet this year).

My top amber style Oktoberfest overall has been Hacker-Pschorr on draft if I was pressed to give an answer.

Overall favorite Oktoberfests (pale or amber) have been Weihenstephan and Hofbrau by far. And deciding between those two would be impossible. Basically if you want something more Helles-like and lighter, go Weihenstephan. If you want something more Maibock-like and heftier, go Hofbrau.

But both of them kick some serious ass this year.

I was wondering what people thought about this. I thought (and admittedly I might be biased because I speculated about this prior to drinking it) that it tastes like their Helles Spezial.

@ChrisLohring are the recipes/process different for these two beers?

    Which two that I mentioned?

    Zero Gravity/Von Trapp or Hofbrau/Weihenstephan?
